ur right Imperialreign the image is 19.5kb on my pc and is a little bigger but uploaded it looks smaller?

It would be so stupid if the limit was 19500 Bytes but the sig was 1950"1" Bytes and it has to be removed.

Not everyone lives in the UK or US. Internet bandwidth isn't uniform throughout. People come here to solve IT problems primarily, all the bling and show are some of the last things this forum sets to achieve.

This is just about ego, and attention seeking in my opinion. Some people need something in everything they do that says, "Hey everyone!! Look at me!! I'm important!! I'm the center of attention!!" I honestly can't think of any other legitimate reason for larger, and larger signatures, or the display of copious amounts of quotes and information.

The only reason I've seen for bigger signatures, is "Hey... uh... yeah, I think larger signatures would be totally neat. We need larger signatures!"

Which only re-enforces my opinion.

I don't ever remember talk about getting rid of signatures. Maybe you just remember the discussion over whether we should have signatures pictures in the first place. Obviously it was decided we should.

tbh the amount of moaning over stupid sig sizes might as well just get rid of them altogether i really cant see the problem you can post as much crap in a thread as you want like desktop screen shots which are uber kb's and uber in size which slow forums much more than sigs yet anything over 19.5kb sigs get moaned about? im not bitching i just dont see the logic in the sig size thing so wont it be best to just stop sigs???

my sig is 19.5kb but when i uploaded it its been reduced to just over 12kb looks poor and i dont see it as attention seeking look at me!! either its information for other users and a form of personal expression.but if thats how im seen by others im removing it.

Why not limit the size of the written sig? Or maybe a max size (height) for written + image sigs?

Let's suppose that, by some miracle, the image of this sig was within TPU's sig image's size limit (and it's NOT): how much do you suppose the written part of the sig adds to it, in percentage? 120%?

@ present, some sigs can be written only and be far bigger the the allowed image size, no?

When I make my sigs for people, and they request them, I always make them at 500 x 100. In the future I will make them alot smaller, including my next one, so no one else takes offense.

You miss understood: no offense @ all, @ least to me.

Many people have argued why is best to keep it as it is, get it bigger or get it smaller but the fact is that, when sigs have image + writing they can be bigger then the allowed size of the image only.

When i copied your sig to give an example, i learned that it is 500 by 170 because of the added writing.

Another example of this:

Although the image in this sig is only 450 by 50, the whole sig is 450 by 155.

Its actually very easy.
Make sure image resolution is 72DPI and use photoshop's "save for web" feature to drop the image to exactly 19.5kb.
19.5kb is quite large given the tiny image size (500x100).

The problem is not so much the compression process, its the fact that changing the size of a graphic to suit the sig dimensions often makes the image dirty/aliased.
This needs to be cleaned up a bit before saving/compressing.

Thanks for that thats the part i could never get right maybe you make a sticky on how to make a sig that is right for tpu.

Im not bad with graphics but ive never really been in a situation were ive had to compress as small as 19.5k i think this info would be usefull to alot of people.
Those that have never used photoshop or think its too complex try picture publisher series its pretty good program and alot more beginer friendly.
