Nvidia 8500/8600 Series Overclocking and Feedback thread

hmmm i got a bunch last year b4 i graduated from my robotics class and my bud was holding them...but alot of mom and pop pc shops.....not like frys or whatever carrythem around here..you might actually be lucky enough to find them a circuit city or marshells and walmart some times carrys random resistors...your looking for inbetween 20 and 50 ohms

I know radio shack has tons of resistors. I think there pretty cheap too.

Which 8600 GT (vendor) do you guys recommend I buy for getting the best speeds with voltmod and OC'ing? What speeds can I expect? What kind of performance can I expect in Crysis with these speeds?

Thanks

8600 from evga or xfx would prob be your best bet...if you look at my mod guide though in my sig you can see whats up about the speeds.....with the resistors im going to get i can push 1ghz core with a really good core etc...also if your into extreme volt mods my mod guide shows a couple of company's you can do that with.

Some people mentioned the Palit and the Inno3D. Do you think with the eVGA or XFX 8600GT I can get 900mhz Core and 2000mhz Mem?

Also, would I need to replace the cooler? Would an Accelero S2 work? There are 2 MSI 8600GTs on Newegg; one with a heatpipe cooler and one with a Zalman. Would replacing the cooler with an Accelero S2 get me a better OC?

Would I near HD3850 performance with the volt mod and OC to 900mhz Core and 2000mhz mem?

What kind of performance could I expect in crysis with voltmod and oc?

If I were you I would just spend the extra on a 3850. Im regretting that I got the 8600gt, its worth spending the extra $50 for the 3850 and plus it is a lore more future proof so it will save you money when you don't have to upgrade in a year.

vmodding helps a bit, but, its not like a new card. YES get the 3850 over it. To vmod you spend 30 on the cooling system like fans or whatever you choose. I upgraded for the same reason. vmodding just helps like 10% max. the 3850 is double the speed. So its smarter.

Hi, Im new here, I noticed there is virtually no talk of PNY 8600GT cards. I just picked one up for my new quad core computer Dull Inspiron 530 for less than 70$ at a well known brick and mortar store. Seems to run well at stock has a 3D Mark 06 score of 4758. Any reason PNY is neglected

nah theyre a decent brand, start over clocking that baby to really see her fly!

i've easily gotten 20%+ more performance out of my 8600GT's thru overclocking, and writing an overclocked bios

xfx and other brands like evga are more popular and after i wrote my mod guide ppl realized their isnt a diff between the brands so no card card was targeted as the best because with moddification all cards are equal.

Thanks for the input I really appreciate it. I will attempt the overclock, when I upgrade the lousy 350 Watt Power supply that came with the system. I dont think it will be able to handle the overclock, unless you folks think differently.

well an 8600GT doesnt require more power than the pci express slot itself can give.....

to be honest a good psu is always a good move, but in your shoes, i would install rivatuner and start overclocking now.... bust just cos i would do it, doesn't mean its the right thing :D

Check this out! Sweet oc on the card w/mild oc on the cpu!:rockout:

Thats pretty impressive bud most deff keep it up!!

yeah I wanna push the CPU to at least 3GHz, I'll need to tweak my cooling options.

go for it dude lap the cooler reapply paste and push you have to beat my epic 8400pts

I thought I would go ahead an try to oveerclock my 8600gt with stock 350 psu. I can do up to about 580gpu and and 1300 shader, Stock is 540 and 1180. Anything more and my screen locks up on 3dMark06 test. As it stands the base card score was 4758 and oc was 4989 meager improvement. My temperature during the tests didnt push more than about 58C. Idle temperature was 55C after slight tweak and fan setting of 100% idle temp was 49C

Im extremly green with this stuff anyways

ya that would be your psu holding you back if you get a better one though youll be able to push alot farther.

Hello! Its been long time i have been here :) Sorry for bad english ;)

So somebody have 8600GT from Gigabyte with Heatpipe II technology!?

Hmz my oc is limited, because when shader klock cross "line" i cant run tests ! HMzz what you can tell me !?

with a volt mod the stable oc is suually 820/1725/1000

lol I can't belive I didn't post this here....

noice, cracked 7000!

I managed to push my graphics card, to get that little extra performance boost, before resorting to the ever expensive system upgrade ;)!

I haven't OC'd my GPU since back in the 6800GT AGP days, *rofl*! I didn't do too bad on stock, but ran out of headroom very very fast. After changing to the Sytrin KuFormula VF1 Plus things are really looking up! Managed to get it up to 775 Core / 1135 Mem / 1637 Shaders. I have an AC Accelero S1 and Turbo Module here that I want to try against the Sytrin, some time....I am using ATITool to OC and test for artifacts, along with 3DMark06 as a stablilty test.

Small OC on the CPU going on as well, Opteron 170 (200x10 Stock) to 250x10. I had the system running 280x10 in my old DFI LanParty UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert but I changed it out for the ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe. Can't keep the same OC on this board.

Too lazy and not enough time to figure out if its the CPU holding it back or a memory alpha timing.

Oh, BTW, No volt mods here ;)
