NVIDIA Plans to Nuke R700

This is news? :o

It is rumors. ;)

Go to the front-page and look for a " ? "

When NVIDIA isn't in the best position within the GPU market it spreads PR BS to make consumers feel uncomfortable. Do you really think that NVIDIA can shrink their new flagship GPU within 3-4 months of its launch? I don't think so. R700 is ready and all AMD has to do now is to optimize drivers. The bottom line is that R700 will crush G200 and NVIDIA has to counter its effects. I expect NVIDIA to release information of g200b in august and get the card out in october-november when its already too late. I can be a little ATI biased, but there is a point in my message.

LOL. Nvidia was working on GT200b weeks before the launch of GT200. Not that it really matter, but check your facts.

Having an ATi bias doesn't involve facts. Its just speculation.

Nobody has an ATI bias, not me at least. Speculation and bias are unrelated anyway.

When it comes to speculation, I want to see NV flex their muscles. ATi has developed a super cheap way of making a monster the likes we've only seen as an underpowered limited R600. With a few of those limits lifted, we see an overpowered (but still limited) R700. ATi isn't going to quit on this design anytime soon & its only going to get less limited & more powerful. Going by their present chips, 2 g92b's can't touch this thing so their only real option is a more efficient g200b. They definitely have the ability to put 2 on them on a card. The only problems I see are heat & cost - but that never held NV back before.

Fact of the matter is, there is always something new in the works. It goes back and forth and back and forth and is known as competition. Regardless of what company it is, it's all PR spin, and look it's working! "Oh, we have something new that will trump the competition." Low and behold, even in this thread there are people who are like "Oooh, I better hold off on buying a card now from 'X' company since 'Y' company has something better coming out!" The spinsters win.

People don't want to buy the new card when the other company claims that it will launch a better one soon. NVIDIA is doing this right now, like every other company would also do.

so bought.

I used to send bits in like this malware chewed my ass out once you should talk to him he can explain it better.

bit-tech was an analysis, nordic was hearsay. I don't consider analysis or hearsay "news" Intel Larrabee Capable of 2 TFLOPs thats news.

If you don't like the article, go do something else. I found the article interesting and am glad it was posted.

In this reality, this article is pure hearsay. NV will not continue to sit on their hands while ATi wipe the floor with them. We also know that they are working on a g200b. However, we can only speculate on the beast that NH is referring to. Its as simple as that.

But it is because of this article that we can produce such speculation :p

Hearsay or not, it's from valid sources, not Fzilla/Inq, I'm not ranting at NV/ATI, but piecing information from NH and their recent article contradicting their own old article whose claims were based on 'leaked slides', their claim. Every news website places such write-ups under 'news'. Isn't it lovely that other sites are beginning to quote us as ' via source' even though our news comes from primary sources? Why? Because we decipher the source in a form that makes is better for others to quote the original source.

You want news? Here you go. Enjoy news : http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=65071

with what shall we nuke it dear nvidia dear nvidia?

We all know that fud & Inq are full of (whatever-you-want-too-call-it). Compared to that, NH is a godsend but I see your point. This is a case where speculation is 1000x better than news

I guess NV is waiting for the thing to come out in order to give us some solid info on their beast. It wouldn't make any sense for them to do it before the 4870x2 was out

News....hearsay.....speculation, it's all information and if just a couple of people find it interesting then it is worthwhile IMO although I agree with Christine in so much as there is (again IMO) far too much speculation out there from loads of sites and sadly too many people either beleive it or seem to want to beleive it depending on what corner they support be it Red or Green, AMD or Intel etc.

Some of us still seem to focus more on what side is winning in a GPU war rather than actually appreciating the performance benefits and competition/prices that a change in supremacy, albeit sometimes temporary brings................I'll go back to sleep for another 2 months now dont worry! :o

good to see you're still alive there, tatty :toast:

anyhow - I don't truly understand why everyone wants to be shocked over this news . . . I'm sure nVidia has had a new fab process waiting in the wings for a while now; they've been sandbagging themselves for quite some time.

It's not unsual over the last couple of years, every time something new came out to threaten their reign, within a couple of weeks we heard an official report of new green camp hardware being released that was running a "revised" setup.

Also, we've known now for a few weeks that nVidia is capable of running GDDR5 - but they haven't had a need to go that route. I'm sure they were also capable of running GDDR4 for the longest time to, but seeing as how there was no threatening competition from ATI, there was no need.

The only thing releasing a new fab process GPU, or GDDR5 equiped cards will do is level the playing field a little more, but price to the consumer, I'm sure, will still be atrocious. If nothing else, this all will just buy nVidia some more time to redesign something better . . . this is their way of letting their fanbois know they're not going down this round without a fight.

bloody hell tatty where have you been man!?

And i think the key word here is PLAN, doesn't mean they will

The only thing I did not like reading in this thread is calvary1980 calling out btarunr IN THE THREAD. Come one, couldn't you have pm'ed him your thoughts instead of subjucting us to them.

Lol, Got a promotion at work, involved a re-location, have just bought a new house also but not moved in yet, been kind of busy this past 2 months with it all and not been on, will not be on much really until I move in, currently am working 200 miles away from old home and commuting at weekends :(

Holy crap Tatty, that is some commute. Also, truer words never been spoken, well said on the topic.

I like how NV can sandbag its stuff, shows gusto :D

That's why I admire them as a company. Of course, it makes them susceptible to being overtaken, but that's the thing about it, they completely welcomed it in this case. NV isn't stupid. They know this stupid war will never be over until a 3rd party join their fray. They can afford to get beat up like this & it will make them stronger for it. It also means that we will be seeing some terribly kickass stuff from both companies in the next year or so :toast:
