TechPowerUp's Folding@Home and World Community Grid teams, both among the top 100 teams in their own merits, have decided to give back to the community by announcing the TechPowerUp Community Crunching/Folding Contest. Organized entirely by the community, the contest gives one lucky winner, a pre-assembled, turnkey PC with optimal hardware for distributed computing (DC-PC). For starters, the PC has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 accelerator to run GPU-accelerated distributed computing applications of the likes of Folding@Home GPU, while its Pentium Dual-Core handles CPU-driven distributed computing applications, such as World Community Grid. With 500 GB of handy storage, Windows XP SP2 OS, Antec BP-550Plus 550W PSU to power it all, and In Win X-Fighter as its housing, the prize would make a perfect addition to any distributed computing enthusiast's armory.

Now open to everyone, the contest is a purely community funded and organized. It involves achieving 60,000 BOINC points and 100,000 F@H points within a contest time frame of 60 days, starting from 11:59PM EST on 10/14/09. The contest ends on 11:59PM EST on 12/12/09. Participants must 'crunch' (score) for WCG Team #22175 and 'fold' (scoring) for Folding@Home team #50711 only. The winner will be selected within five days of contest closure, and contacted by e-mail. TechPowerUp doesn't partake as the organizers of this contest, and hence do not hold any liabilities. We do however, like to commend our Folding@Home and World Community Grid teams for organizing this contest, that symbolizes goodwill and team-spirit, and wish everyone associated with it good luck. I'll start by saying...

may the best man(or lady) win

:toast:

i has no shot :(

so that's nothing for EU members :(

actually... i think we can get something established as far as shipping but i cannot promis anything as of now.

i wouldnt let that keep you from trying in the event that we can get it shipped over to you.

are 2 or more PCs per person allowed then or does it even work ... i mean there are 3 pcs that would fold kinda good ... one of 'em even folds from time to time for TPU

i like that. altough i not fold, its a good cause that i will always support

I know a few who will be having this.

Is it a "either/or" points or total?

"and"

"60,000 BOINC points and 100,000 F@H points"

It is a minimum for both WCG and F@H. Both clients must be run and with the hardware out there, it is completely withing reach for people within the time frame of the contest.

I don't fold or crunch.

Sweet idea guys! I've been putting off setting up WCG and F@H for a while since I've been so busy, but once my P55 setup gets in I'm gonna run them :)

This is an awesome idea! Props to who ever wins:)

I'm only crunching 3 comps but I don't fold, so no prize for me.

Not sure if its worth my time.

Well, its entirely up to you. Should you choose to start and require questions answered, just post up. Half the guys froth at the mouth to help.

Also, contest is officially International as per the Contest threads in the Folding and WCG subforums. I'm sure Bta has been contacted to modify that little tidbit, but I figured I'd give you guys a heads up.

:rockout:

i dont fold, so no win for me. as usual;)

"Not open to residents of United States and Canada" would have been great ;)

very good news. Good luck to everyone who is in the contest :toast:

How will the winner be determined? Also, how will point accumulation be tracked?

Contest open to everyone. Gogo South Americans, Europeans, Asians, Africans, and Auslanders.

I think the contest is a wonderful idea. All of you that have been Crunching and Folding out of really the kindness of your hearts. Not to mention the bills that can pile up from what you all do. Hats off to all of you will be watching this great work every one :toast:

Wait so what if we already have 90000 points in folding does it mean we can't qualify since we already started?
