Early AMD ATI R600 Specs, Benchmarks Leaked

Newly created site Level 505 has leaked benchmarks and specifications of AMD's upcoming ATI R600 graphics processor expected in January 2007. Some of ATI's R600 preliminary specifications are: 64 4-Way SIMD Unified Shaders, 128 Shader Operations/Cycle, 512 bit Memory Controller, full 32 bit per chip connection, GDDR3 at 900 MHz clock speed (January)- total bandwidth 115 GB/s, GDDR4 at 1.1 GHz clock speed (March, revised edition)- total bandwidth 140 GB/s, consumer memory support 1024 MB, DX10 full compatibility with draft DX10.1 vendor-specific cap removal (unified programming), 230W TDP PCI-SIG compliant, CrossFire support. this AMD card looks better but you have to remember all of the cards based on these chips will from now be entirely diffrent (appart from the GPU) due to AMD remove the design restraints, i can see the market getting flooded with a lot of idiot verison being made with this chip. As impressive as the specs for the r600 chip are for a company whos selling point was selling point WAS energy efficientcy 230watts for a GPU is obsurd.

If those scores are true its very un-impressive in my book. Call it "too much hype" if you want but we are back to the see-saw battle from ATI vs Nvidia that we know all too well. 10 FPS here 5 FPS there, it's very un-inspiring and past old! If this turns out to be true, I'll pass big time on this gen, not worth the money for a few FPS difference from x1900 or x1950 series in my book!!! I am not in the habit of spending $500+ for a video card that only gives you 1 step up in performance from one series to the next, it's absurd!

the one good thing i can see coming out of this is all the people who wasted their money buying the 8800 on release may now find the 8800 is reduced to the nvidia middle spec card so people who havent wasted their money could possibly be in for a bargain

From what I heard, we won't have to worry about plugging that monster into our power supplies. It would probably require a motherboard connection where the PCI Express connector should be . Instead, it'll have an external power brick, and probably require it's own circuit . On a more serious note though, The FPS difference at this point is minimal (bad), it outputs WAY more heat then the G80 (awful), is probably going to be more expensive than the G80 (terrible), and uses more electricity than my main computer (disgusting). R600 will not have a welcome mat to my rig, I'll take midrange DX10 when it comes out.

to be honest looking at those benches not very impressed at all, the r600 only beating the 8800GTX by a small margin, i expected a lot more performance from the R600, although the drivers are in beta and it doesnt show the true performance still not very convinving.

if any of you are thinking of buying a dx10 card i wouldn't buy one now, beucase this is new technology and it's gonna take time to settle in and make one perfect product, i think in the summer of 07 would probaly be the best time to upgrade, hopefully better cards out by then and game that actually do support DX10!!

thats just my opinion i no many ppl here will disagree but every1's free to their thoughts.

Performance was anywhere from 8% to 42% more than the 8800GTX, if I remember right. That's pretty good if you ask me.

It will be priced the same as the 8800GTX.

well fps wasnt much sometimes maybe 12 or 18 more in some games. not rele worth waiting for if thats the only thing u gonna see
