In what is surely the biggest GTX 1080 announcement this year (pun intended), Colorful, at their Colorful CGU (Colorful Games Union) event, has taken the lids of their KUDAN version of the GTX 1080 - a monstrous, 4-slot graphics card sure to vie for most of your rig's interior space. A hybrid design is used to keep the Pascal graphics processor cooled - it actually features a triple-slot, triple-fan over an aluminum heatsink array on top of the GPU and circuitry, as well as a water cooling-powered backplate, that can be used in conjunction with the card's own air cooling or your custom water-loop.

The rest is business as usual: 2560 CUDA cores and 8 GB GDDR5X VRAM, with the core being clocked at 1936 MHz. The memory is clocked at reference speeds of 10 GHz but the addition of an overclocking BIOS should help alleviate that fact. Power to the card is fed through dual 8-Pin connectors which should be enough to power the electrical circuitry on the PCB, which Colorful touts as having been fully re-engineered so as to deliver the KUDAN's required power characteristics. Display outputs on the card include 1x DVI, 1x HDMI and 3x DisplayPort.

No details on pricing, but expect this one to come in near the top of overall GTX 1080 offerings. The GTX 1080 KUDAN is expected to launch somewhere along December or January.

But it's not even that hot...

Prepare for broken PCI-E slots a plenty in China.

What pun? How much more crap they gonna stuff onto these things? LoLoL

that is the most.. ridiculous thing from a gpu I have ever seen, is that nitrous?

also if you want the best wait for a MSI Lightning there is nothing better.

LoL

Didn't they release a gtx a couple gens back that was cooled using a slew of 40mm fans or was that another mfg?

They should sell a modular extendable stick with it, to support all that weight...

That back plate will limit which Motherboard you can mount it in, it will either be too close to the CPU cooler or Ram slots.

yes colorful did that lol and also one with no fans and a quad slot I believe

some pics of things odd from the rest b3984.jpg b96.jpg triple slot 680 no fans xD

Do you mean the Voodoo5?

The triple-slot, no fans 680 is actually pretty sweet. If you had an mATX, and it could keep temperatures down, why not?

did some quick transforming and cropping but probably best quality image of this gpu atm, if anyone can find better post it

4 slots? That's ridiculous. Unless it allows some monstrous overclocking it's not worth it.

You mean like this?

This is the Gigabyte card I was thinking of when you said that.

Colorful is crazy, love them for that though!

This is stupid. Why is the backplate watercooled?

I actually wonder how that performed

Loud hot and inefficiently
Don't they run pretty cool? Just super loud lol

Anyways that 1080 is the most ridiculous thing I've seen....who the hell thought a watercooled backplate was a good idea.

I don't think it actually cools the backplate just space needed to fit on the card

Unless it's phrased wrong the news post says "watercooling powered backplate" I take that as watercooled.

Funny enough, at one LAN party one of my friends had bought one of those second hand about the time the GTX 7XX series was released and kept it for awhile. It was an interesting card, however it was almost never quiet which was its downfall under any load (Even idle it was mediocre). It overclocked great and the temps were never bad even at a max overclock, but it really heated up the entire tower and was loud (He actually bought cheap foam to try and make the system quieter while he had it). He kept it for a year and a half roughly because he was cheap but said it was not a great investment (Even though he paid a low price for it on ebay). Not my first choice on graphics cards that's for sure.

yes but its not cooling the backplate its just there to fit while cooling the gpu

which is not a bad idea since... if you don't plan to sli/crossfire gpu that space could be used as a backpack scenario

I don't quite understand what you mean.

I don't quite understand what you mean.
The card is a Hybrid card meaning it can do either or both on cooling it. The watercooling is not for cooling the back of the card, it is cooling the GPU similar to cards like the Asus Poseidon series.

Basically, you can plug this card in and go with no issues what so ever or you can hook up the water cooling and have both the fans and the water loop cool the card as well. The design is just a bit different than normal for this idea which is why it looks confusing (Unless I am misunderstanding something).
