Bethesda sure is testing their fan base in more ways than one with the upcoming Fallout 76 game. First, we learnt that it was an online experience with no single-player campaign. Then came the news of an exclusive (at least at launch) use of the Bethesda.net launcher rather than Steam for the PC platform. Interest in the game was mediocre at best, if online gaming communities are anything to go by, and today we got to know about the Fallout 76 Platinum Edition that costs a whopping $115 USD but does not even include the actual game!

That's right, Bethesda in their infinite wisdom are selling this alongside the standard $60 edition, a $80 Tricentennial Edition, and an even more expensive $200 Power Armor Edition. The other editions all include the game, because why not, but this $115 edition is sold as a gear and comes with goodies galore for the hardcore Fallout fan. If you wanted to shell out the cash for a guide to the game universe, a collector's case, a numbered art print, mini journals, postcards, maps and more, you can find the link in the source. For everyone else, hold on to your horses and see how the game is received by the media before even deciding if the base game itself is worth it. Bethesda is setting a dangerous precedence here with physical goodies for pre-order based off an online game that is not even out yet, and all we can do with vote with our wallets by keeping them shut.

Whoever is paying for this doesn't deserve the money in the first place.
So let the idiot suckers do it.

I'm starting to understand more and more people pirating those games. Callous ridiculous prices for mediocre games...

FALLOUT 76 PLATINUM EDITION PRIMA GUIDE
Immerse yourself in the largest Fallout environment ever with the Platinum Edition guide to post-nuclear West Virginia!

Well you'd need to ignore a bunch of things to think that would include the game. They do seem to be getting you both ways, collectors versions of the game plus collector versions of the game guide, it's not like they even sell it in the normal slots, you have to go out of your way to get directed to buy that guide over all the other channels to purchase versions of that game.

I actually like this way so they don't just release it as console only edition like many over game developers do and leave out PC with only the stock game if you want a physical copy of the game.

I am not familiar with any Prima Guides that have previously included a game. So why all the fuss about this one also not including it?

And as far as the price goes. It's a collectors item, prices were never low for these.

Prices are getting ridiculous on games, and it’s not just Bethesda. The last two triple A’s I’ve played, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and AC Odyssey have the basic games for $60. If you want digital deluxe, add $20 for practically no extra stuff that should be in the game anyway. After that, you’ve got super duper versions all the way up to $100, and then we’re not even contemplating the $40 for a season pass!

Edit: before finishing I started looking around.....this trend is alive with many PC games. No wonder I missed it since I’ve played smaller or Indy titles for the last year mostly*. Just wow.

*Despite playing fewer AAA games recently, the basic $60 for Odyssey is some of the best money I have spent on a game in years.

You could easily plunk 200 hours into TW3 without even trying, on 1 playthrough. If you just explore and don’t blindly let it lead you through the main story you’ll find amazing things everywhere, even in the most remote places. Buried treasure, someone who needs help, some old ruin, etc.

The main quest will still be there whenever you pick up parts of it in each region you travel.

I learned that trick in Skyrim...I had that pushy Blade woman trying to lead me by the nose...I just blew her off and got lost for a 100 hours. Then I ran out of things to do...so I joined the Imperials...and they start pushing you pretty fast towards a conclusion. So...I did what Arngeir said to do...I followed the way of the voice.

Mine.

I got into gaming on PC back in 1994, back then Computers seemed to be much more fun.

The cost of gaming has outweighed the fun by a long way theses days, and with the price of games, which i understand cost silly money to produce block buster titles, but it has outweighed the fun in games.

what are you really paying for? probs mostly for the cut scene movies in the game?

either way the cost has killed the fun for me these days, down to all the games are just the same/clone of run around, shoot, pick up etc only difference being with graphics and story, your still repeating a formular from years back.

it's worn thin for me after 24 years of capitalism

I laugh at the price of the games on my Xbox One X and rare i buy any games new.

The beauty of the games is making up your story (as you go along at that).. but if you didn't deal with her at all (Delphine), you might want to.. since you'll eventually split from her anyways. And it's good to get some of the perks of finishing the main quest.

As for FO76.. I like the series, but I might pass on this. I didn't even play TES Online, and I'm a much bigger TES fan.

TES Online was fun until about an hour after the return point. I was so excited to go back to Morrowind.

It isn't capitalism doing this. It is people being distracted by shiny advertisements and wanting to be cool. If it was capitalism, you would see TW3 loot crate patch. Which, if that ever happens then it will be a sad day as the last bastion of pc gaming will have fallen.

StrayKAT...

I passed on TES Online as well...and yes...I'm becoming a huge fan of the series(Currently making a run at Morrobliovion and I love it!) with Oblivion being my favorite. Specifically...what Martin Septim did...I had tears welling up. No, not kidding. I hope Bethesda is happy enough with TES Online and leaves TES 6 just as the other titles are ~ single player.

Delphine? I got back to her long enough to grab a Blade's sword, but got lost looking for Esbern in the ratway. I might head back there soon...Mjoll and I are currently going back to clean out Mzulft. I have a very strict "no leaving any goodies behind" policy. No rush...:).

I don't have the SE version of Skyrim so I haven't played any of the DLC...I thought I'd wait until I got good and tired of the vanilla game...and then splurge. I hope at least some of it is worth it.

Best,

capitalism I mean in general of games and just about everything these days.

capitalism has it's place as it's needed to move forward, but when capitalism is abused like it is in today's society it defeats it's practical use, other than to feed greed.

at this rate it will become self destructive, if they don't come to terms with the greed.

Does the guide include how to get around all of the glitches the game has or is it just the first glitch free Bethesda product?
