NVIDIA CEO Says Buying a GPU Without Ray Tracing "Is Crazy"

During NVIDIA's second quarter earnings call, the company's co-founder and CEO, Jensen Huang, talked about earnings and what drives demand. When talking about sales, Huang noted a few things about NVIDIA's RTX lineup of graphics cards and why buying one is the only reasonable thing to do.

Specifically, Huang said that "SUPER is off to a super start for and at this point, it's a foregone conclusion that we're going to buy a new graphics card, and it's going to the last 2, 3, 4 years to not have ray tracing is just crazy. Ray tracing content just keeps coming out. And between the performance of SUPER and the fact that it has ray tracing hardware, it's going to be super well positioned for throughout all of next year."

He says that if you are going to buy a GPU and have it last 2-4 years, you have to "future proof" your system by buying an RTX GPU. What is implied there is that NVIDIA is currently the only company that is building a GPU with ray tracing built into hardware, meaning the only choice for ray tracing enabled games.

Ironically, NVIDIA also offers Turing GPUs without any of the ray tracing capabilities in form of GTX 1660 Ti, 1660 and 1650 GPUs all positioned at low to middle range performance market.

Does the man not realize that everyone's laughing at him right now?

And everyone who's not just didn't get the memo yet.

Future proofing with GPU :D And then mentioning 2-3-4 years. What? Isn't that just 'using the product you bought'?

lmao. he's crazy and delusional. even your cards get a huge amount of performance penalty while playing with raytracing on.

meh.

I wonder if these CEOs think everyone upgrades every year or something. Using a GPU for 2 years, when buying at the start of a new generation, means you might be using it only until something replaces it in the same performance/price slot with new architecture. I can't fathom upgrading every year, unless the GPU market really starts shaking things up, or if you're very bad with money.
Am I thinking about it incorrectly?

Does he think people grow money on trees?
This don't make any sense .

He is trying to justify keeping the gpu prices inflated over 400 USD across the board.

Ngreedia.

I guess every single person that bought the 1660 and 1660 ti are crazy too then

He does, its why he shoves 1200 usd down our throats the schmuck.

Yeah lols

Is PhysX still going?

Also, how many games have Ray Tracing?

Iirc anytime he opens his mouth he is about to be rocked.

No, charging $1200 for 2080 TI is crazy.

Oh Jensen. Let's see how stock prices will react to this.

Always nice to see how CEO's are tone deaf to the realities of life...

Don't forget - The more of these you buy, the more you save too.

my GTX1080 G1 is still ok even in Ultrawide 3440x1440
Im still gonna pass 1 or 2 more GPU generation and meanwhile with that money saved bring the wife to Thailand 1 or 2 times where I can see full Raytracing landscapes and make her happy.

honestly where are those promised Raytracing games?

... if you are going to buy a GPU and have it last 2-4 years, you have to "future proof" your system by buying an RTX GPU.

Given that all 3 (three!) current titles featuring RTX, had their implementation scaled down (resolution of reflections, object culling in reflections, reducing the number of rays and bounces, etc.) to even make anything but the 2080 Ti viable with RTX on. We all should buy a 2080 Ti now to be "futureproofed" for coming games with RTX? Because nothing short of that 1200€ + card would "futureproof" you by that logic.

Didn't most feedback on RTX pointed to the need to increase all those cut-down areas rather drastically to clearly outdo current techniques in rasterized rendering? Which would mean not even the 2080 Ti can futureproof you IF (!) RTX really should take off in the next 2 years. (I have no doubt that RTRT, in general, will take off though)

Shouldn't a CEO keep his / her statements to facts and reason?

Also isn't the timing of that statement a bit counterproductive? It kind of suggests that 2060 SUPER and 2070 SUPER sales are not going as well as stated, given that you can't buy anything without RTX above those performance brackets anyway and somebody is concerned about RTX sales with coming releases from the competition.

"New Ray Tracing content coming all the time"

Lol I bet he includes the demos.

not really, when you're the only flagship GPU manufacturer on the planet..
you can charge whatever you want...and its selling and nobody can do a damn about it other can just commenting it on tech forums.

When nvidia started Gsync..then cameby adaptive sync in the form of freesync
when they start RTX, eventually everybody else will join the bandwagon soon(AMD,PS5,Xbox2...etc).
if only amd started RTX..nobody would have even known if it existed..
everybody must be thank nvidia is taking a lead in PC gaming..and bring next gen technology even though its only in early stages..
soon RTX will become more mature and will run even on rtx 2060 and next gen nvidia 7nm will be good at it.

in the coming years...All AAA titles would have RTX in PC gaming .

I bet the Leather Jacket himself did not actually "BUY" any graphics cards from Nvidia, so technically he is CRAZY.

I bought a 2080 Ti. The only game I actually played thru with RT turned on was Metro. Every other game either impacted FPS too much, or looked worse (Shadow of the Tomb Raider).

Jensen is crazy.

hmm Jensen , What happened? It's not crazy when I can't afford to buy 2060s , They're still expensive, so I buy a cheap card
