NVIDIA today released the latest version of GeForce Software. Version 465.89 WHQL comes with optimization for "DiRT 5" update with raytracing support; "Outriders," and "Evil Genius 2: World Domination." More importantly, the drivers formally introduce Resizable BAR support for GeForce RTX 30-series "Ampere" desktop and mobile discrete GPUs. Priliminary (beta) support is also added for virtualization on GeForce GPUs. Other major changes include support for the new OpenCL 3.0 compute API, NVIDIA SLI support for "Shenmue III" and "The Medium" (on "Turing" GPUs only). Support for 8K TVs is improved by extending the DP-to-HDMI 2.1 PCON clock frequency range.

Among the handful issues fixed with 465.89 WHQL are pixellated smoke with "Rainbow 6 Siege" in Vulkan API mode; a crash with X4 on RTX 30-series; a BSOD when a Samsung Odyssey G9 display is paired with HDMI TV; a BSOD when playing games and watching YouTube videos simultaneously on an RTX 2060; "Sunset Overdrive" showing green display corruption with in-game DOF enabled; Realtek DP to HDMI 2.1 converters being limited to 600 MHz pixel clock, abnormal idle power draw on "Turing" and "Ampere" GPUs with higher refresh-rate G-SYNC monitors; and screenshots captured using GeForce Experience appearing washed out with HDR enabled.

We tested resizable BAR performance in extensively in our article: NVIDIA PCI-Express Resizable BAR Performance Test - 22 Games, 3 Resolutions, RTX 3090, 3080, 3070, 3060 Ti/

New Features and Other Changes
OpenCL 3.0: Added support for OpenCL 3.02, the latest major version of OpenCL maintaining backward compatibility with OpenCL 1.2. NVIDIA OpenCL 3.0 continues to support existing OpenCL 1.2 functionality as well as Khronos and vendor extensions that are already supported with NVIDIA OpenCL 1.2 drivers.

Fixed Issues in this Release
  • [Rainbow Six Siege][Vulkan]: Smoke appears pixelated. [3266916]
  • [Vulkan][X4: Foundations 4.00/X4: Cradle of Humanity] The game may crash on GeForce RTX 30 Series. [200701230]
  • [GeForce RTX 3090]: Blue-screen crash occurs when Samsung Odyssey G9 is paired with HDMI TV. [3240366]
  • [GeForce RTX 2060]: Blue-screen crash (DPC_WATCHDOGS_VIOLATION) occurs when playing a game and watching YouTube video simultaneously. [3196272]
  • [Sunset Overdrive]: The application may display random green corruption if Depth of Field is enabled from in-game settings [2750770]
  • Realtek DisplayPort-to-HDMI 2.1 protocol converter clock limited to 600 MHz pixel clock [3202060]
  • [G-SYNC][NVIDIA Ampere/Turing GPU architecture]: GPU power consumption may increase in idle mode on systems using certain higher refresh-rate G-SYNC monitors. [200667566].
  • [GFE Screenshot/HDR]: Application screenshots are washed out when HDR is enabled [3229781]

Update 15:02 UTC:
Enabling PCIe Resizable BAR requires a VBIOS update: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5165

Update 15:22 UTC:
If you prefer to not use the NVIDIA EXE VBIOS installer, and rather want to update the BIOS yourself manually, we've saved the plain BIOS files after updating our Founders Edition cards:

Dirt has an update today too. :D

Does resizeble BAR need to be enabled somehow? GPU-Z is still showing it as disabled after installing this driver. On RTX 3080 FE

Alright!!!!! Let me try the resizable bar on my imaginary 3080

All good here with a 3070 Gaming X Trio and Ryzen 9 3900X.

Now excuse me while I never update my VBIOS again. That was scary.

Did you update your GPU BIOS and enable Resizable BAR in BIOS, and boot from UEFI (not CSM) ?

What is so scary about it? You can't actually brick the card, because you can always reflash it as long as you have a second gpu to help you.

The second GPU part is scary. I don't have such thing in my household atm. The current GPU situation is also scary.

Good to know that my 9900K isnt supported...

So uh, my VBIOS version remained the same after updating (94.04.3A.40.90). Is this intentional?

  • Includes beta support for virtualization on GeForce GPUs

Why are people not more excited for this!

Welp, asus 3080 Tuf bios update thingy always fails

Manual update worked fine~

Damn, Zotac's partner page doesn't seem to be live yet. I guess i'll be a little late to the party.

Hey Guys,

I think the BIOS update bricked my 3080 FE.

I used the bios updated provided by nVIDIA and it went well, said that the BIOS was updated successfully and that I needed to restart the pc. So I did and now it does not boot with the card plugged in.

I removed the card, booted the pc using the onboard gpu and the worked as it should. Plugged the card back in, and it does not even post.

Anyway to fix it without having to RMA it?

Thanks!!!

Very exited. Has anyone tested it yet? Do we get full hardware acceleration in VM's now with GeForce or is it limited to only some VM solutions? Im using Virtualbox.

You need to do whats called a blind flash. You need to reflash your old vBIOS with NVFlash. As long as you have iGPU or another card it can still be fixed without RMA.

That's bad when the official update bricks it after reporting all good. I applied a BIOS fix for a DisplayPort bug on my MSI 2080 SUPER which worked ok. Never noticed any difference, in fact.

I think you'll have to RMA it.

This is the sort of stuff I feared before upping my 3070 Gaming X Trio today, thankfully all went well and ReBar works.

When you say "does not boot", do you mean that you can't even get into the BIOS?

Well, it seems the problem is not the card but the motherboard.

I'm using a Z490-I from ASUS and it seems that the 2005 bios is not compatible. If you happen to enable ReBar your system won't even boot.

Thanks to a guy on reddit who was having the same issue and discovered what the problem is.

Seems like all ASUS boards using the BETA bios for ReBar are having this issue.

My system is back online and working properly, albeit no ReBar.

Oh good to know your system works and the card isn't a paperweight then.

I'm using a stable ReBar BIOS for my Asus board, there is a Beta one but I always avoid Beta bioses.

I'm trying to downgrade the bios to version 1003 but it says that the bios is not a bios file.

I've used the bios renamer and formated the usb to fat/fat32 and still nothing.

I'll try later...

Failed in what way? Could you elaborate? What did you do to fix?

I have a TUF-RTX3090-O24G and I’m somewhat concerned with applying this.

By the way, my card has a dual BIOS design (P and Q BIOSes). Does anybody know whether these have to be flashed separately or the update procedure updates both of them at once?

Thanks!
