AMD Reportedly Delays Radeon RX 9070 GRE Release; Insiders Theorize Revised Q4'25 Launch

A part of AMD's enthusiast fanbase scoffed at the prospect of a rumored Radeon RX 9070 GRE 12 GB model arriving ahead of—officially teased—lower end RDNA 4 options. This new generation's "Great Radeon Edition" seemed to be heading into mass production; according to insider track information. Last week, fairly legitimate specifications leaked out and TechPowerUp's GPU-Z utility was updated with support for this slightly mysterious Navi 48 GPU-based gaming card. Members of the Board Channels forum have heard fresh whispers from industry moles—most likely from AIBs—regarding a possible delay of Team Red's Radeon RX 9070 GRE design. Alleged initial plans suggested an original release at retail; on May 8. Further conjecture points to a revised Q4 2025 launch window—perhaps just before November 11. The same Board Channel report also mentioned an expedited rollout of AMD's Radeon RX 9060 XT cards—earlier theories signalled an early June (aka post-Computex 2025) arrival, but insiders now posit May 18.

Could of been delayed as to not soil the launch of the 9060 XT since the 9070 GRE would be the better product spec wise. Or they simply don't have enough chips yet. The RX 7900 GRE was China-exclusive as well, but there was a global market gap betweeen the 7800 XT and the 7900 XT that AMD then decided to release the GRE worldwide. I wouldn't be surprised if it is the same this time.

I mean the same market gap exists right now arguably but we were kind of lucky to get the 7900 GRE. It was a well loved GPU among our circle of folk who actually do buy Radeon products, too, because it was very good value.

I don't know if AMD would do the same thing again, we would of probably already had rumblings that they would plan to release it worldwide already.. the fact we haven't isn't inspiring confidence in me.

Navi 48 is on a mature node. I doubt the have enough chips available to produce the number cards needed for a launch. They aren't going to sacrifice good chips that could be sold for more money.

Exactly, by specs (and quite certainly price as well) there will be a non-unreasonable gap between the 9060XT and the 9070 for the 9070GRE to slot in globally, but that'd require stock. Were AMD to release it still only in China, why delay it until Q4? Is the production of Navi 48 that amazingly good so no scraps are left below the 9070 threshold?

Probably realized the 9060XT is competitive vs. 5060Ti 16GB and didn't feel the need for the GRE for now. Hell, even the 7700XT is competitive.

FFS AMD, rebrand the 9070GRE as the 9060XT and be done with it (rebrand the latter as the vanillas 9060 or thrown a bone and call it the 9050).

Take the advantage whilst Nvidia mess around with 8GB @ £350+ nonsense in 2025 and try for once.

While they can still alter pricing, I think it's too late for a rename at this point. The packaging would have been designed by AIBs by now. I guess they could go the "unlaunched" 4080 12GB route. They could slap stickers on the existing boxes to cover over the original intended name

Naming the GRE as 9060XT would be good and 9060xt as vanilla.

432gb/s and 18gb/s? Rather have a 128 BIT GDDR7 card with higher SM/CU. (28gb/s min spec = 448gb/s)

3072 adds up to 48 CU. It's the direct 5070 competitor, but cost AMD more than NVIDIA since they're using defect N48. 64CU 9070 XT is a little under 70 SM 5070TI.

Performance will land between 5060 TI and 5070, but worse bandwidth than both.

How things are going not even next generation GPU's will do that. Maybe the one after that, but you probably going to pay 800$ by then.

What is amd thinking with these names though? They don't have the brand recognition for the average user to know what the heck is the gre and how it fits into the stack. Just name it 9060xt and be done with it.
