2700X boosting beyond 4.3GHz on its own?

Is this normal behavior for the 2700X? I'm not overclocking at all, but HWMonitor is showing it boosting to 4.5GHz? CPU should only be hitting 4.35GHz, right? Not complaining, but I didn't expect this behavior on the previous Zen generation. Or am I just dealing with a bug in the software?

I use HWinfo64 over HWMonitor for my system. Every once it a while it too reports false positives. But most of the time I see a peak of 4.35GHz on all cores recorded.

Maybe you have a chip that's better than average tho? My chip is extra average, can't really complain though it has performed extremely well over the past year I've had it.
 
Yeah, I prefer HWiNFO64 too - though the sheer amount of information it provides can be overwhelming at first (I recommend checking "sensors only"). You might also try CPU-Z and see what it says.

I agree with Kursah and this could be a small bug in the software. You could send a note to the developers and see what they say. Unless they immediately confirm there is such a bug, I suspect they would ask you reset the BIOS and make sure all your clocks/voltages are at their defaults, then run the monitor again.
 
Yex xfr allows boosting as far as it can go dependent on thermals and power delivery/quality of motherboard/cpu.

Even with the best therms, 4350 is top.

Anyone with 2700x can try post 4.4ghz all threads gonna use big voltage. (1.5v)
These chips are no good even on a manual oc past 4.5ghz.
 
That cpu is not boosting no 5ghz.

Software giving false readings.

4350 is max single core boost.
PBO level 4 (oc) is 4.3ghz.

5ghz, break out LN2

Do you have any other monitoring up or in the task bar? When two run it can mess things up.

Have you verified with another application... like taking a look at CPUz to see if you actually hit those clocks?

But again, as shrimp said, that is almost impossible without extreme cooling to reach those clocks.

1.0v per core and 44*c max temp? i'd probly go with "yes".

I'm sure it's a glitch with HWMonitor. I have the same thing happen. Sometimes it says my 2600X boosted to 4.7GHz even though the max is 4.25GHz.

I've even had it say that my laptop's CPU used over 1500W at some point...

I've never seen this HWMonitor, but I'm also using W7 not W10.

Probably something to do with buggy RTC... And one of the reasons I don't use W8/10 for benchmarking.

Hwmonitor is by cpuid.

A quick read for you fellas.

Basically, the reference clock fluctuates and can cause readings to be taken and displayed in an unfit timely fashion.

This idea comes to my mind because I'm not using W10 on my daily driver (system specs) nor do I wish to lol. The DX12 games I play on the family HTPC instead. Granted at much lower quality, but I can't stand W10 as an operating system for daily use. It's just too loaded with crap I don't even need... or want.

So a lot of my experience with overclocking isn't on the latest and greatest windows operating system. It actually bogs down the hardware potential. But since newer AAA titles will only run on 10, I'll eventually need to conform. (No I don't care that microsoft is dropping support. That doesn't stop me from running wXP.....)

Trust me w10 gets broken constantly, the UI feels like a regression, it's intrusive. 7 just worked, im goin linux after 7 won't run.

Problem with Linux is the real lack of monitoring tools, if that is your thing. Also, there are still trips to the command line and the chance of blowing up your install. I’ve done that more than once while trying to get OpenCL drivers installed. Linux isn’t terrible, but it‘s still not all it should be.

And I do think my OP is a bug in HWmonitor. HWiNFO so far has not reported anything past 4.35. I will continue to monitor it and see.
 
Ryzen Master, HWiNFO64, and CPU-Z are the only monitoring programs that accurately report the clock speed for Ryzen.

For Ryzen 2000 and 3000 CPU's these are the most accurate monitoring apps.
And as stated above you should only run one monitor app at a time to avoid conflicts.
I have a Ryzen 5 2600 rig (OC'd to 4 GHz) and a Ryzen 7 3700x rig (with PBO enabled) and Ryzen Master and HWinfo (6.15-4020 Beta) are definitely the most accurate CPU frequency/temperature monitoring apps available to date.
CPUz is also a good app for checking CPU voltage.

W10 is performing better and better, using the latest build I got this sub today -:respect:
