There are three of them on the egg that are 309.

and none had free shipping. So add 10.00 give or take a few dollars depending on where you live.

The HIS did. Two days ago. Also even with shipping its still cheaper than two 5770 AND you can OC it to 5870 levels.

and two overclocked 5770 at 1000 core DDR5 6000(or near ) will kill it for 18.00 more.

Dont forget consume more power, heat and not scale in 100% of games. Also I dont think the 5770s use the same Samsung DDR5 ram as the 5850 or 5870.

No your right they use better ram on the older models 5770s (Hynix DDR5 does 6000 Same as 5970) and the same ram as 5850 and 5870(Samsung DDR5 5000) but better binned on the newer 5770 models. I also don't believe they produce more heat, but I will let you know. Also since the 5970 is out multi gpu driver issues won't be a problem since technically the 5770 uses the same gpu as the rest of the 5800 series but has sections disabled. Still a single gpu always has less driver issues.

My current card maxes at 5800 24/7 but many people get ddr5 6000 on hynix. No 5870 can reach that on it's ram. The Hynix ram on the 5770 is much faster than the Samsung on the 5850 and 5870 cards. I'm not sure where your getting 25 percent better.

I have had both and your wrong.

5770
The overclocks of our card are 925 MHz core (9% overclock) and 1500 MHz Memory (25% overclock). The core overclock is ok, but the memory overclock is simply amazing. Remember, on GDDR5, for every MHz real clock you increase effective clock by 4 MHz.

5850
The overclocks of our card are 835 MHz core (15% overclock) and 1260 MHz Memory (26% overclock). For your reference, the defaults are 725 / 1000 (GPU-Z is showing the wrong values due to a bug which will be fixed in the next version). As a percentage those overclocks are really nice. The maximum core clock of 835 MHz is clear evidence that this GPU ended on a HD 5850 because it could not handle the HD 5870 clock speeds of 850 MHz. The memory chips are exactly the same as on the HD 5870, which results in roughly the same maximum memory clock. In essence you can get a HD 5850 and overclock it to almost HD 5870 performance levels in just a few minutes.

Is the default clock on the 5770 higher than the 5850/5870?

Edit: It is. lol Your right the clock speed is higher on the ram.

I'm not sure of your point. The hynix ram on the 5770 and 5970 overclocks alot higher than the Samsung ram on the 5850 and 5870 it is a fact. My 5850 did 1250=DDR5 5000 and my 5770 does 1445+ = DDR5 5780. The ram increase is more important to the 5770 here because of 128 bit bus and lets it's gpu strech it's legs.

This is a typical overclock on a 5770 and from a review.

Shipping at the same 850MHz core and 4,800MHz memory settings as any other Radeon HD 5770 1,024MB offering, our sample's 1,003MHz/5,680MHz stable clocks translate to an in-game frame-rate improvement of almost 15 per cent, consistent across a bunch of titles at a 1,920x1,200 resolution.

My Samsung GDDR5 does 1580Mhz if I need it to, it just gets VERY VERY hot... Ran Furmark for 15m w/o crashing at that speed so... I think its stable. So, I think it all depends on product binning and what process is used to manufacture the RAM.

The new Samsung on the 5770 are better binned than on the 5870's and 5850's. Also Hynix is used on the 5970's to increase overclocking. In the future I'm sure the newer Samsung ram will make it to the 5870 but the first batch didn't go near as high as the Hynix.

you mean this part correct.

AMD has successfully executed the next step in their Radeon HD 5000 Series launch strategy. The HD 5770 offers a healthy performance boost of over the 25% compared to the HD 4770 with performance being equivalent to the Radeon HD 4870. The new card includes all the new features like DirectX 11, ATI Eyefinity, improved HDMI Audio and reduced power consumption.
Resolution wise the sweet spot for the HD 5770 seems to be 1680x1050 or 1920x1200 if you are willing to sacrifice highest settings on some games. Thanks to AMD's new power saving techniques the card idles at only 17 Watts and reaches 112 W maximum power draw. This gives it a leading spot in performance per Watt together with the other HD 5800 Series cards. Thanks to the great GDDR5 memory chips from Hynix we were able to reach 6 GHz effective memory speed with overclocking, which is a 25% increase over the default clock speeds.
The only real complaint I have about this card is that its fan seems to be noisier than necessary, especially when considering the performance class it is in. And then there is the price. At AMD's MSRP of $159 the card is just too expensive when compared to the HD 4870, which can be had for $135 right now. It is understandable that a price premium is justified for the new features, but $25 feels like a bit much for the sub-$150 performance segment. I expect that HD 5770 prices will drop quite soon. When asked about availability AMD responded that they will have more than 10,000 cards available in retail at launch. Let's hope that this is enough to satisfy the big demand.

My last statement on this for now

Lets face it no 5850 by itself will beat two 5770 in crossfire, both set ups for now have similar price tags. It just depends on a few things 1. space and case size 2. whether or not you have all 320.00 to plop down at once 3. whether you have one or two PCI 2.0 slots and 4. if you want to deal with possible driver issues. With those facts in mind you can make a argument for either card set up. I bought mine because the 5870 is overpriced and the 5850 didn't overly impress me at it's current price point. I wanted 5870 performance but didn't want to pay 420.00 shipped. At 269.00 the 5850 is a better choice and at 379.00 the 5870 is also a better choice but those prices no longer exist. I could kick myself I canceled a 5870 for 350.00 about 3 weeks ago but thats life.
Good luck to all. trt740

Welcome to TPU.

The 5770, 5850, 5870 are all GREAT cards. Is the 5770 better than the 4870? Yup. Is it worth the upgrade given the prices now? No. However you cant go wrong with any of these choices. :toast:
