In case you didn't know, AMD's most recent drivers broke C&C3, Red Alert 3 and similar games using the same engine. I was not aware of the situation until last night when I wanted to play some good old CnC3 with my buddies. And it wont work. Errors out every single time.

Well after some searching around I found I am not the only one. It was reported when the driver first came out:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/7kri8t
And of course somebody informed AMD's driver team over AMD community forum. Too bad here is the report from one of their employee:

1.JPG

So of course many people were upset. Check people's response here. Most of them are very civil

https://community.amd.com/message/2839053#comment-2839053

And what does AMD do again? Locked the thread out of any further discussion

More discussion over reddit

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/7na5ws
Of course we are going to have people defending AMD here again, as usual. However I just wanna point out that openly saying you are not gonna repair a fairly played game (go check CnC3's online player number, it is not dead by any means) in driver is quite a d*ick move.

Now I need to see if I can run CnC3 on my macbook with some crappy Intel iGPU

Good, I dont care. They SHOULDNT pour engineering resources into it. Everytime Iwant to play NWN1 I wonder how its going to break this time. Find a work around and move on with your lives. I'm happy they and hopefully other companies in the future take this kind of stance, tech moves forward and we dont stop for nostalgia.

Well go back to older drivers derp. Even fullinfusion said the drivers were borked. You appear to be very impatient. Stop cowtowing this rhetoric.

I bet they would work on nvidia.

I wanted to play Sega's NiGHTS on christmas day maybe make a video since the game changes completely.

Instant crash, so trip to event viewer says it's atiumdag.dll. I would have to use really old drivers in which I have no idea when they removed it.

I had to find fixes to get 16bit games from expert software to run on XP or newer, even a work around for the hyper framing in the first Deus Ex on a 9700Pro or newer. I even found a work around for COD 4 MW to work on an Athlon XP due to missing instructionset...

Are you using 17.12.2? Maybe try earlier drivers?

I wish I can go back a few driver. But problem is the last stable driver 17.7.1 is not compatible with Windows 10 FCU. Also Windows 10 FCU would constantly force upgrading to 17.12.1 when I am connected to internet. Really annoying.

Well they shouldn't break something that worked in the first place ...

To all the affected: try turning off the new monitoring/recording overlay. Witcher 1 is super sensitive to any kind of overlays and will crash a lot with Afterburner/Relive turned on ...

Let me know how it works for you

Good to know... though admitedly, those are ancient titles, id certainly expect it and would simply roll back. In most cases it works.
Welp my macbook seems to be able to run it just fine using WineSkin. lol, CnC3 on TV here I come.

No, I actually agree that this is a Bad ThingTM, if indeed it is a driver problem. It's hilarious though.

So, people should only "remember" older games? Normally you are very level-headed, but to tell someone "no, you cannot play The Witcher (which is in the recent modern era of games), go buy Nvidia if you want to" is pretty damned FUCKED up. Seriously effed up.

I've always made sure to have at least one AMD GPU in the house, to support the Sad Sacks of the industry. Obviously, they like being last I'm convinced, and cannot any longer support them if this is their stance.

Sometimes when coding 1 thing another breaks, green even has this issue, look at bios modifications for gpus too...

Don't let 1 person there make you think twice, I honestly feel this thread blows things out of proportion, going back 1-2 Drivees fixes most issues, both on green and red.

It was mentioned in Vanguard on the 26th but nothing is really happening right now because of holidays. Witcher 1 confirmed on my hardware with Adrenaline, downloading RA3 to check that one too. Submitted report.

Except, at some point you can't, due to incompatibility with this week's new version of Windows.

The real issue is this is the company's position and mindset. It's a mindset that apparently confirms for me something that was thrown around here last week: maybe they don't even want the GPU business anymore.

"Just roll back your drivers"

Do any of you own Windows 10? How much longer will that be an option? I mean if they own a Vega FE card they are good since the newest gaming driver is only like 17.7 after that you have to play shenanigans. AMD has really pushed my faith in them out the window.

This is disappointing to me as I still play some of those games as I enjoy them. Somehow I can manage to run these games on a three way SLi setup without issue, yet doesn't work on AMD. This bad press will just keep shooting them in the foot.

Try Linux on desktop and warp back those games using WineSkin. Software emulation of DX9 games seems working so far. And the performance is acceptable.

Hopefully future AMD drivers will correct this. Hey, at least I can still hope.
