Advice in Buying a PCIe 2.0

Hello, i'm thinking about getting a graphics card, preferably the HD 3870 :wtf:

,so i wouldn't have to worry about any upgrade with a videocard any time soon. Does anybody have any suggestions of what brand maybe, or any brief info or opinions about the HD3870? I only plan to have just a card, no crossfire or anything like that. Thanks for looking.

Link, IMO, best brand for the HD3870 I would say is HIS or Sapphire. You could pickup a Diamond but only if there tons cheaper.

Right now as far as 3870's go, Sapphire is your best bet. I haven't heard of a Sapphire card that can't be v-modded. If you're into that.

What do you guys think of the Gigabyte that had just come out, not the one with the funny looking zalman thing, but the one with the actual HSF lookin' like the others.

If it's just a single card you're looking for, you're better off with a GeForce 8800 GT with a non-reference cooler design from Gigabyte or PALiT.

How would i be able to determine that. And plus the HD3870 looks more promising. I did check on the 8800GT and saw a few on sale, but still expensive, and i don't want to be sold yesterdays chip and older card they just want to get rid of. If i decided on an 8800GT, what should i look out for? Can anybody help with this question? Thanks.

Reference cooler design: Example from Zogis, EVGA, XFX, PNY

Non-Reference design: Example from Gigabyte, PALiT, ASUS, MSI, Leadtek

You'd argue on the price point but believe me, the < $220 price-tag that the ASUS, MSI cards come with (pics above) are a steal!

You can look for better performance than the HD3870 in most of today's games, the non-reference cooler design facilitates higher over-clocking = better performance.

IMO: HIS, or if you want red PCB, get a reference design 3870. Keep away from Powercolor and Apollo.
