I'm looking forward to building my first gadget that distracts the androids.

Well, you can either use EMP gadget or a noisemaker. Though EMP doesn't work on those maintenance Joe's in orange hazmat suits. Flares distract the alien but i'm not sure about androids.

I've yet to use any of the distraction gadgets. I find the game more immersive if I time sneaks, including the hazmat Joes.

just encountered a delicious bug/glitch was on my way to Samuels then I see a android in the elevator then it comes for me I backtrack safely since there's another one behind me then waited, ran past the android, got in the elevator doors close in his face.

Usually one would expect it's over but no it goes through the #£%&* door lol.
I get insta killed since I was too late to switch to my revolver.

lol :0

Yeah those Joes are strong. Easily strong enough to stop an elevator door from closing and open it. And I don't think at that close a range even if you'd aimed your revolver you'd have been able to stop it. It takes a good 4 shots to the head, and at that range he'd have already grabbed you and started tossing you about like a rag doll. The embarrassing bit is they usually say something sappy while doing it.
nope it was a glitch he's knee was sticking out so they game thought he was in the elevator which he was not :D

Have you got the bolt gun yet? When you do, a single, fully charged shot to the head is an instant kill. Get as much ammo as you can - You'll desperately need the bolt gun for when in reactor maintenance, trust me =P

I like it when they say "Don't run",..."You're going to hurt yourself",..."Running causes accidents",...as they're trying to catch me while walking.

mroofie, are you using your motion tracker a lot? That sound can attract attention, and keep the alien in an area nearby you.

Though I have noticed that sometimes, no matter what you do, it will 'hunt' you in an area where it previously had no idea you were. It's only because you have to go that way in the story, that the alien seems to then follow you to a new sector.

I love the concept behind the distraction gadgets, it adds an extra strategic element to the game :) Fair play for doing a run-through without using them though!

I like the distraction mechanics too, though I don't feel the rerouting power to various systems, always has the desired affect.

Too much motion tracking at close range, esp on higher difficulties, is s no no. I have however mastered the art of glancing at it briefly just long enough to see their location without making it beep. Track on, track off, kind of a Mr Miyagi thing.

This is why I love the distraction gadgets - makes it so much easier in the situation you're in =) I remember when I was at that part of the game, took me quite a few tries but I used mainly flares to cause the Alien to go to a different room to where I was supposed to go.

Doesn't seem like the alien attacks other humans either, which is a real shame because I purposely lured three of them into an area where the alien was vent crawling and they walked right under him several times.

DafuQ?

I also noticed in a lot of the Youtube videos, people are not starting over from each save point - I guess on the easier difficulties, it has mini checkpoints in between the manual save points?

Just finished the game and can't wait to jump into the DLC's. Finally a Alien game that doesn't disappoint...in my eyes anyways.

The Alien does attack other humans...definitely! I think it's just chance/a glitch that those lured humans weren't attacked. I used human bait plenty of times through out the whole game.

I got all the DLC's, but in my experience they weren't that extensive and I got all the use out of them in a short space of time unfortunately. Hopefully more DLC's will be on the way =)

I've yet to use any of the distraction gadgets. I find the game more immersive if I time sneaks, including the hazmat Joes.

I've used my first gadget (distraction) very close to the end because the Joe was standing still in a hallway and i didn't have any stun prod charges and i also didn't want to make tons of noise where i was. So i've thrown the noisemaker to other end of hallway and sneaked away.

Yes, minutes after I posted that, the alien cleared they way for me by dragging them off.

I think the game really starts to come into it's own, during the second half/later parts of the trauma kit collection. The operating theater portion is particularly awesome, the graphics are chillingly good and sitting there hiding under a gurney while the electrical sparks strobe flash the alien's shadow off the wall as it stands above you....

I've written few tricks on how to intentionally get rid of people using alien in my survival guide. You can provoke the alien by making noise, then you can use flare or other distraction to direct it to humans.

Escape through San Cristobal Medical Reception.
The part just after the double security terminal unlock and the android starts walking around.

ALIEN SURVIVAL FOR DUMMIES

#1 First rule that i've learned after meeting alien for the first time. Turn off the fuckin music. It may improve atmosphere somewhat, but the fact i can't hear fuckin alien footsteps over the whole orchestra slamming their instruments kinda defeats the whole purpose of it in a game where awareness of the threat is the only and top priority. So, go to settings and move the music slider all the way to the left...

#2 rule, always know the hiding places in the room you're currently in and for the room back and prepare for the upcoming room. You can use lockers, vents, small closets on wheels (cube shaped), you can hide under the desks that don't have clutter underneath.

#3, never stay in the same hiding place for 2 alien appearances. He apparently enters the room and leaves it. In the meanwhile it's recommended to hide somewhere else. If you stay in the same place, it's highly likely it will spot you and well eat your brainz or guts.

#4 Don't bother using a revolver. Not quite sure i've seen a good use for it against alien just yet, but i know for a fact that shooting it in the head does not work when i've violated the rule #3 :D Preferred to stay away from survivors as well instead of head on attacking them or just hit them with a wrench from behind for a silent takedown.

#5 Always crouch walk when alien is roaming the room you're in. Never ever walk or sprint, because that will give you away.

I will fill in more details when i learn more...

Escape through San Cristobal Medical Reception.
The part just after the double security terminal unlock and the android starts walking around.
