AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Driver Update, Boost & Performance

I so annoyed Windows' driver updates Linux haw not this.

Installation works fine on 5700XT - just did a clean driver install using DDU followed by CC cleaner, restart and installed the driver.
Up until this driver package I had always just did "Auto-Update" or downloaded and installed from TPU/AMD. Never removed or cleaned anything before, unless I was switching video cards. It's the first one that borked out like that since getting a pair of RX580s just over a year ago.

oct wqhl

and then

dec wqhl

so the beta drivers didn't do so well on this bench , but these too worked spot on with a .0002 p% gain lol i pretenf to no :p

Ok so what settings should I use to enhance Diablo II when playing on my 4K display? Keep in mind the game can only run at 800x600, but I can put it in Window mode or Fullscreen and stretch it, center it, ect.

Great new UI.

Option for small minimal driver install is always nice too.

Have you tried disabling "Animation & Effects" in Settings - General - Preferences?

@ZeppMan217, I was talking about the NVIDIA Control Panel when I still had a GTX 1070 in my desktop. From what I remember, I don't think there were any noticable animations or effects when navigating through it.

problem with this driver...4k res at 60htz...no 444 at all, rgb or ycbcr , only ycbcr 422.....no hdr...only choice period no matter 30 htz or 422 no choice for 10 or 12bit color either
tried 59 htz still no go...only at 30htz will 444 show up....it was fine all other earlier drivers
they really borked 4k

No V2 tests makes me sad.

AMD and HBM fanboy, is getting the snub.

Up to a bad start. On all of my (a few) Ryzen 2700U PRO laptops I don't have a working driver after the installer finishes.

Same thing even with a clean install. It seems to me that 'Widely tested statement is a bit fluffed.

update.... yea this driver is broken. cant do full screen in games (something causes it to lock up till you hit windows key then it will unfreeze but lock again in a couple seconds)
also it wont play games in 1080 res just 4k that is set in windows settings
its all about a broken 4k res in different scenarios

reverted back to previous and everything runs fine
oh rx590

Disable Enhance Sync. Had the same thing happen to me in Warframe. I had reported it as a bug.

I went back to 2019. Kept getting a black screen dump out of games. If I left the computer for a bit it wouldn't wake up. Upon reboots, I'd login and the desktop would show for 10-20 seconds, and then the screen would go black. I left it like 20 minutes and nothing. Reboot again and it did it again. So the third time before I found out if it would do it again I went to Add/Remove and uninstalled.

I'll wait till next week's version and try again. :p

as far as i know i didnt have that enabled, but still not reinstalling to test because of no hdr and 444. i think i will wait for a update or two. first time in a long while ive had issues with a driver

Do they not have any QA department? It's the same story all over again.

If you choose the Gaming preset it will be enabled.

Someone on Twitter wrote "imagine a world where the UI remembers the window size we set it last time. ".
Does this mean the new driver STILL doesn't remember the window dimensions?

Really sad. Usually the end-of-year releases were really stable and polished. That's why I didn't hesitate to try these immediately.

Then my disappointment got immeasureable and my day got ruined.

I had a really good streak with AMD drivers for a long time but I guess everything comes to an end.

I also do the same but with major update i never take a chance.

Good start..... need some more bug fixes. First update is out already. You REALLY need to run AMD uninstaller(auto runs in safe mode) first.
Performance gains for Navi, but nothing for 590. Well of course the 590 has been out for 4 yrs already seeing as how it is just a 480 on a better process, they have squeezed every ounce of performance long ago.

Radeon Boost is a great feature, but what they should do to improve it is to implement checkerboard rendering like on consoles, but only on the sections of the screen that are blurred due to being in-motion.

Example (I can't make a screenshot example because I'm at work): When driving in PUBG (FPP), usually 30% of the sides of the screen would be in-motion because of the passing terrain and constant movement. Dynamically lowering the resolution on those parts should see a nice boost.
no it isn't
it's a bad gimmick

That's a 6 FPS boost from 56.9 to 62.2 while in motion. You may not notice the image quality drop unless you stare at certain parts of your screen (e.g. the gun or other corners of the screen) while moving around. Also, that example of BL3 is on the Badass preset which is still stressful because of the volumetric fog. 1080p/1440p with a mix of high/ultra/badass settings with volumetric fog at medium and you'll see nicer gains with Boost and better FPS overall. I've seen 10+ FPS gains with the in-game Steam FPS counter (I have the Steam Overlay launch other non-Steam games).

But I can agree that Boost does cause some sort of frame drop once it starts. I've tried this with PUBG and while it does net me 144+ FPS in motion, it feels weird when I start looking around to spot other running enemies and there is noticeable hitching when boost engages.

tbh it looks god awful if you compare pictures
even lookinhg at the 4k samples at 83.3% there's just too much, dropping in game resoltuion would look and run better so IDK what purpose this serves

Just as bad as DLSS, both are dirty tricks to gain some performance. I would not use them.
