AMD "Zen" and Intel "Kaby Lake" will Only Support Windows 10 and *nix

7 FTW. I had W10 license. Bought it with hard cash, not updated "for free". It is biggest piece of garbage in software history. Except 2 simple terminals all my work applications refused to work.

Shame on Microsoft for not updating your applications!

EDIT:
Your right and Almost all the fuctions are still in the old control panel, this and most other things can be found very easily using the context sensitive explorer panel ie click on my pc in it and you can easily start the full control panel or the cheap new one which doe have some added similar and different features

This is one of the bigger problems with the UI. Some things you can change from both Settings and the Control Panel, some things you can only change from one of them, and clicking on some things in Settings brings up the Control Panel and vice versa... It's essentially a jumble. The only upside is that it gives us a kind of transition period, to get used to the touch-style switches instead of ticking boxes and clicking Apply.

I have no problems with Aero. But I suspect I should slowly keep trying to turn it off to mentally prepare myself for the switch to Windows 10 when the time comes (hopefully not for at least another year).

lol!!

There are so many retarded people in this thread, it takes 2 clicks to get to the control panel in Windows 10
You must have lots of friends.

You must have lots of friends.

I do actually lol

Either way, people need to stop spreading lies. W10 does have the normal control panel and it takes exactly 2 clicks to get there as shown in my gif.

People complaining about privacy probably have gmail, use google, have a twitter, instagram, facebook or any of that other crap that "spies" on your activity. No matter what you do to try to prevent any "spying" it will happen in some way or the other.

the cat avatars make you two bickering awesome :)

The thing is the Control Panel does not have all the settings and neither does Settings, and some things in the Control Panel open up the Metro UI and some thing in the Metro UI opens up the old style UI. It's ... jarring, and frankly confusing.

Thats actually one of my 2 cats and although she may look friendly, she's a wolf in sheepskin. Wasn't really bickering either though lol

I haven't noticed anything that isn't in there and found only 1 thing so far that leads to the modern ui and that is adding another user account. No idea what other things lead to the modern ui as i haven't found any others yet.

Monitor settings is one of them. Win Update, lock screens and related things. Windows Defender.

You people just need to be lazier. Want windows update? Type the shit in.

I kinda want to know the side of the users that refuse to upgrade to the newer OS version. I originally came from Win 7,then upgraded to Win 8.1 after half a year of its release, and I installed win 10 a few months back. What are their reason's from not updating to the newer OS? I would understand pricing now but what about the time when the Win 10 upgrade was free? Is it because you're much used to the old system that the new one might overwhelm/confuse you?

Not really trying to bash or throw dirt on anyone but IMO this is a good move from MS as with this they could focus on Win10 development and optimization rather than focusing on keeping those older OS' alive.

I didn't upgrade simply because my pc is old

I believe that when i do upgrade my pc i would have to purchase a new o/s

but if i keep my windows 7 i can use that on any system i build

now the o/s might be old in a years or twos time but finding the cost of a new pc and a o/s at the same time would cause me to reduce the hardware i could purchase

as it is i can buy my hardware use my windows 7 and when the system is fully working i could swap over to windows 10 if needed and in my own time

Guys, you are all talking from stand alone user experience. How about all the Companies out there (80%) that are still using Windows 7 machines due to various reasons (mine included) ??
Those companies are buying new laptops every year, but they all have custom build images for Windows 7.
Isn't in your opinion a little bit retarded to stop the support for the new CPUs for using an older OS??
Maybe all those companies don't want to upgrade to Windows 10 for compatibility issues, costs, effort, etc.
For an average user Windows 7 is perfect. Why cripple his brand new laptop for not having the latest OS??
F**g idiots!

You clearly seemed to miss one key point in you rant: If a company has custom built (Not build) images, they are going to purchase the exact same hardware for those images. Otherwise, those custom built images will not work anymore.

The sub 30 year old water cooled over clocked bleeding edge generation will be happy with this.

While they shamelessly self promote new operating systems and hardware... THen shame and call anyone a noob who isn't on the latest and greatest.

Couldn't tell you who Dennis Ritchie or Dave Cutler are.

Windows 10 is retarded Its a DE-evolution ( no colour icons) no start bar which almost every other OS on the planet has. You need to be on some good drugs to use the piece of crap they call a start bar. ( could go on about how shite windows 10 is)

But on the other hand this is fantastic.... You can run NIX. Imagine a whole generation of kids growing up not wanting or needing to know windows environments.... While I have less dislike for NIX it has it fall downs but its generally Free and works.

AMD and intel must like shooting there own feet

I do, but I don't know all the settings by heart. And sometimes I just plop my comfy chair in front of the computer and don't use a keyboard.

@cyneater Why is no colours a step back? Isn't it just a design choice? Genuinly curious, I don't think I've seen that argument before.

Actually Windows support has always been decent.

Apple does not support older OS-es, however they do offer free OS upgrade (which MS did as well)
Google/Android vendors support older OS-es only up to 2 years from launch date. (In reality Nexus has like 2 years, for the rest is more like 1 year, as it takes them 1 year to incorporate whatever changes google did in their version of the OS.) Some models sell for more than 2 years, which means you can actually buy a phone with no support at all.
Ubuntu has the LTE version which will go up to 5 years.
MS support was been over 5 years in general for the last relevant OS versions.

I've been running windows 10 for the last year and its great. Some things are a bit awkward, but its robust, reliable OS.

No, No, No and hell no. I do own an android smartphone though (with a custom rom, so not all bad).

That said, I agree. It's way blown out of proportion.

From a UI perspective, my main beef is not the "lack of" control panel, but the fact that we basically have two.

And you people already know how I feel about igore lists... quit "shaming" people via them.

Microsoft, get knotted. And shut up with your idiotic scare tactics. Pathetic!

This in not news people. So what if MS doesn't "support" the new CPU's and chipsets. Windows XP still installs and runs perfectly on my Ivybridge based system. Not a single problem. It even sees and properly reports the model of the CPU. It sees all 12 threads. Windows 7 will do the same.

You're not even going to be able to buy Windows 7 much longer. It's, what, 7 years old? That's ~5 lifetimes.

I can install Windows 3.1 on that setup and it would work flawlessly, that's not what this is about...

Starting in November Windows 10 will be the only version of Windows Microsoft will be making available, Windows 8 (OEM) was discontinued at the end of June, and Windows 7 Professional (OEM) and Windows 8.1 (OEM) will be discontinued at the end of October, which would normally be strange since Microsoft usually gives the previous OS a 2+ year OEM window after the launch of a new OS.
