Taiwan's ASUSTeK Computer Inc. said on Monday that it had filed a patent infringement suit against International Business Machines Corp (IBM) in a US court earlier this month.
We sued IBM for its infringing two of our patents related to storage on the Internet and server technology,
said an ASUSTeK spokesman who declined to give more details. ASUSTeK's move is part of a legal battle that first started on December 7th, when IBM filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission against ASUSTeK and its North American subsidiary ASUS Computer International. Back then IBM said the infringing products include notebook computers, servers, routers and some components. It said the patents cover important aspects of computer systems, including power supplies, computer cooling and computer clustering capabilities. IBM sought import restrictions on some ASUSTeK computer products and components.

Is it just me, or has ASUS become rather aggressive recently?

Because they are MAXIMUSLY RAMPAGED!! Seriously if someone was using your patents wouldnt you sue them too??

I think all these 'patent infridgement' suites going on are just stupid... Reminds me of Apple stealing the Xerox GUI and then tryin to sue MS for have a GUI too... I do understand some of them, but others are just silly.

First off IBM holds the most patents in the world. They also file more patents every year than any other company something to the tune of like 8000 patents a year. So IBM knows patents and the laws surrounding them.

So if they are infringing on someone elses patents then they deserve to be sued, as I am sure they wouldn't waste a second suing someone else for doing the same to them.

I hate these big companies who think just because they have the money and can tie things up in the courts for years to come, that they can get away with it.

I only mentioned because ASUS tends to not get involved with corporate politics too often - but the last few months they've been jumping in with the intention of laying some shit down

Sounds like they are doomed

Is this what the Justice Department was referencing too when it slapped a ban on IBM?

considering MS didn't pay for GUI or the original "mouse" or the "rat" as xerox execs called it who cares about that one :p

and look whats coming out from the Fact of Existence of Windows- Called ReactOS, Beta apparently is due sometime this year, i assume Final release will be in 2 years.

Asus needs to back away from this one methinks. Good company, but bad decision to try and fight IBM over a patent. All I see happening is IBM scrounging through their basement, and peggin a dozen patent infringement cases right back on em.

Basically, don't throw rocks at a friendly giant. It might throw one back.

neither apple or ms stole the "gui" or "windowed system enterface" xerox let them have it, as they wherent captilzing on it, then apple shared with ms in order to help ms dev software that would run on their new os, and ms "stole" the work apple did and ran with it, but in this case i dont see it as wrong since nobody really got hurt, and also apple did get their office software :)

NUTSHELL
Xerox had Steve come in and "evaluate" their GUI, mouse, printer system. Steve said it was ok but wasn't good. Xerox execs said paper would be forever anyway.
Jobs stole it, had Gates program it. Gates saw the big picture and jumped on IBMs ship and programed GUI for them. Now MS rules the world. ROFL

on topic
Asus better have some good ground to stand on with this, or they must want something from IBM. Only things I can think of (really hoping its not stupidity).
