Back to Windows 10 for me!

Oh ok, i thought you found a way to streamline updates in the media itself.

I'm also downloading a newer iso once in a while to reduce the amount of necessary post updates.

Streamlining updates can be done by 3rd party software but why pay when you can just do it freely? It just takes a little longer and takes up more bandwidth.

Regardless, this is a massive positive for those who install OSes often and a lot.

The media creation tool from MS's website. It lets you create a bootable USB stick with latest ISO. I update the ISO once every month to get all the updates.

From what I understand, Microsoft just offers the same ISO build until the next major update.

Have you confirmed that the ISOs are actually different from month to month? It's easy enough to do with something like MD5 Summer.

Solaris17 has a fix for Windows 7 update problem, so that issue is now mute!

You will return to 7 give it time ;) :P

Nope, no i wont.

I haven't confirmed (and haven't bothered). Still, with previous windows, you had to steamline updates and it was somewhat of a bother. With Win 10, it's just 3 or 4 clicks.

It helps in many cases, but has not been a 100% solution on my bench and experience unfortunately. So, sadly no the issue is not moot, and is still very much an issue that is present...but to Sol's credit, it has helped with at least half the rigs we've used it on since he released it. That alone has made it well worth it!

My bench tech is still getting frustrated with the slowness of 7 updates, though we're making progress. I'm actually eager for the revised Windows update platform for 7 and 8 to take effect...if they update like 10 does and as-fast as 10 does, I'll be happier, so will my bench guy and our customers.

No the usage of Windows 7 is at an end for me, not only that but numerous other issues due to overhead are present..

My CPU is at 12-14% usage at idle no matter what and almost half my ram eaten, that means i don't get some of my performance. I messed up Windows 10 by being experimental and was my own fault, now Windows 10 is far more optimised than 7 could ever dream of.

I will also add that 1 game had massive frame time variance for no reason that i could observe clearly on 7 and that was Sleeping Dogs - which was not happening on 10. Could also be Nvidia's Win 7 driver.

What is truly sad about Win10 and Win8 is that both could have been successes, especially with Win10 being free, but Microsoft has a vision of what their future is and they don't want to compromise it.

Also on my laptop after reinstalling the factory Win7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 I found that just installing updates KB3102810 and KB3172605 was enough to get past the long search time, install the first one run updates until it breaks again then install the other, well at least that's what I did.

Works for some, but not for all.

I fully embrace Windows 10. Let 7 rest for good!

@Recon-UK, I usually use ProcessExplorer from systnternals to find out what really is the culprit in those cases ... select offending process (in case of windows updates issues it's one of the scvhost.exe) and look at the list of DLL-s used by that process in the lower pane - the description column should have windows update somewhere on the list :D

I think for the most part it's hard to let go as it's some nostalgia and reluctant behaviour, i only went back to 7 because i myself messed up my install by doing a custom theme job... obviously user error.
I got mad installed 7, looks like an old friend as that's what those Nostalgia goggles do then a few days later... this is meh, this is why i left Win 7, this is why Win 10 is here. Now if it was a game? Nostalgia can be king!

Agreed, but for others I think it's just being comfortable with the way it's setup, Win8 and 10 bring lots of changes.

I wish more game developers would update old games, I love replaying old games, but the dated graphics and engines usually kill it for me after the nostalgia wears off.

In that regard Windows 7 is against you, notice the horrible discolouration on Windows 7 when playing games like Red Alert 2? that is Windows Aero affecting the games colour pallet and visual quality, and Aero is not removable it is a vital part of Windows 7 even when you are only using basic theme.

Fortunately I haven't noticed this problem, though I have noticed issues with menu's not wanting to work, and sometimes or was most of the time the exit prompt would be invisible and I had to guess its location, currently I use the version Origin gave away last year.

Meh, I run both on identical drives, and running desktop mode they are about the same speed. Games run the same fps. Benches score the same with admittedly a minor improvement on win10. But it's really minor.
My windows 7 was installed in may 2011, it's imaged and transferred to the present drive, while being in a dual boot with win8 at the time. Did the same with win10 which I first had on an old raid array and now on a bigger drive. Had to reinstall win10 due to a broken hard drive from seagate (10 days old) which had nothing to do with the transfer from raid.
Windows 7 boots faster in my setup, has all the bells and whisttles enabled, but that's all in desktop mode. My cpu stays at 1600Mhz when idle.

So there must be something wrong if your windows 7 is running wild.

As for games, sure, dx12 will force people in using windows 10. And it's not bad at all, minus the spying. Looks and works about the same as windows 7. SSD is also better on 10 and there are some other nice improvements.

Anyways, I keep windows 7 around since it's rock solid, and I got all my stuff on it like mail adresses etc etc.
Windows 10 still has the occasional quirk, especially after some major update like the anniversary upgrade.
And while it seems handy, it stores alot of your adresses and settings, it also feels like giving your home key to the neighbours.

Noticeable decline in FPS in Dying Light on Win 7, plus i run a CPU that uses Hyper Threading, Windows 10 is far superior at multithread.

I have found you gotta do it a certain way, install your OS, and then ONLY install the driver for your network, then run his fix, if you do this you wont have any issues and I have tested this on many different systems without issue.

But lets get real, the update thing yes its annoying but its only time that we waste, apart from that there is no issues, patients is what you need when working on PC's if you dont your in the wrong industry. By the end of the day Windows 7 is more stable and more user friendly not just to Programs and the user but also hardware, thats just a fact. No if buts or anything just pure fact.

and yes I use Windows 10 on my Work machine and dual boot it for Windows 7 also (i7 970, 6GB RAM, GTX 750) and I still end up going back to W7 because of incompatibility with 10 (but only for a few things) Acronis!!!

I feel like the Cookie Monster waiting for Windows 7 to find updates...

I feel for you windows 7 users..
i remember when games startyed using mice as controlls. I hated the idea and refused to progress with the times, now its been many many years since that happened, and i do use a mouse in gaming and it is great and i feel stupid for being so stuborn at the time.

but my point is, i know how it feels to not want to change and how it seems that its better not to do it, and you will find any reason you can to defend not wanting to change.. But in the end you will because its stupid not too..

It should be noted that I still can't stand Windows 8/8.1 full screen start menu. Those operating systems were a failure for a reason. I still have to put up with that garbage whenever I used my Server 2012 R2. At least it has the right-click start menu option like Windows 10 so sometimes the start menu can be avoided.

Yeah, yeah, yeah Classic Start Menu, Start X, etc. If an operating system makes you go Jackie Chan WTF everytime you click the most important button on the desktop, it failed as an operating system. Windows 10 is what Windows 8 should have been.
