What is the best media player software in two criteria:

  1. All-In-One
  2. Video-Centric
  3. Music-Centric

Name your picks in both categories.

Thank you.

All I use is WMP. I come across a lot of people who say WMP can't play what they need so they turn to VLC, but I just download K-Lite Codecs and I havent ever found anything it can't play. So I guess that would be my All-In-One choice, but thats all I use, tried others, didn't see the benefit to having multiple media players, keep it simple and less clutter.

I did the same :toast:

Single songs or albums - WMP 12
Whole music library - iTunes
Any video - VLC

I swear by Rhythmbox on my Ubuntu setup. I have Winamp and WMP11 on my Win7 setup, and TBH I can't decide which of those I prefer :o

MPC for video
WMP for music

i said other, cause i didnt see MPC-HC listed. i suppose i should have looked for 'media player classic' derp.

winamp is better for music, but you cant beat MPC-HC with CCCP for media playback.

Shit, I fell just like you. Can't I take my vote back? I guess I was too eager to vote! Anyways, I use winamp since 98 and av since stuck to it. There's a great community, thousands of plugins & skins. Tried a lot of other MP's, but they never gave me the customisation I want. Its for music though, cause I use MPC/VLC/WMP for videos, depends on what I'm doing actually. There aint such this as best tbh, everyone will vouch for theirs actually, so...

well i've tried everyone elses best, usually with bad results.

I just use the default media player on ubuntu, and when im on windows i use either wmp or zune software

Thats why I think that from now on, I'll take the word "best" with a grain of salt! :D

i use mpc for videos and foobar2ooo for music, tried wmp 12 but it erases my library on every reboot.:shadedshu

Music, both streamed internet radio and what's on my pc: Winamp

Video (video files and dvd's): Media player classic-Home cinema (using the CCCP codec pack, but i uninstall the version of ffdshow that comes with it and use the latest beta from http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net)

for the random things that don't play nice in MPHC, the DivX player works nice.

Winamp for music.
VLC for movies.

WMP for music
WMC with media browser plugin for videos. I am loving the media browser plugin atm!!

Thanks everyone very much for the replies and the participation.

Agreed. k-lite has been excellent.

:slap: windows media center, aka the wanabe tv fo yo pc

i shoulda known that.

I'm glad Klite works for you, but i often have to fix machines where its borked up the codecs. many VLC users i know moved to VLC after K-lite screwed up their codecs so bad their system couldnt play many file types any more.

if people want a codec back, CCCP is where its at. Yes, it may have one or two less codecs than K-lite (namely: realplayer and quicktime) - but at least it doesnt fuck shit up (like i dunno, fallout 3 and oblivion).

MPC:HC + CCCP for video
Foobar2000 for audio

This wins so hard.

VLC for me i never get tired of seeing my Digital video collection constantly streaming as my desktop back ground. lol Boondock saints 1 + 2 movies as desktop backgrounds makes me day more enjoyable when bored. Add in the all in one no muss no fuss cant fuck it up video player and music i stick to WMP

WMP12 for me, with the right codecs it can play any video I want and seems to scale nicely(not as good as the ps3 though).

I do use VLC for .flac files, and the random offbeat .avi that doesnt want to play on wmp

why did you put wmp11 and 12? *shrugs* it's the same software.

anywho .... I use wmp with Shark007's free (vista/7) codecs. Seems better than wmp+k-lite or wmp+cccp. and I like kmp player too.

itunes and realplayer are the worst crap eva. period.

Yeah...Itunes sucks hard, especially when it takes a million years to start no matter what (at least from my experience).

I've used Winamp for the past few years, and I haven't a single complaint against it either. K-Lite takes care of most of the files that Winamp doesn't play anyway, plus, as it's been stated, they have a very large and dedicated community.
