i shoulda known that.

I'm glad Klite works for you, but i often have to fix machines where its borked up the codecs. many VLC users i know moved to VLC after K-lite screwed up their codecs so bad their system couldnt play many file types any more.

if people want a codec back, CCCP is where its at. Yes, it may have one or two less codecs than K-lite (namely: realplayer and quicktime) - but at least it doesnt fuck shit up (like i dunno, fallout 3 and oblivion).

That was my problem with BethSoft games before and I made the exceptions for those games and they ran better after that.

For windows 7 I may switch to CCCP and just have RP becuase I have been using it for downloading youtube and other site's vids really easily.

Thanks for letting others know about the k-lite thing. I was going to post it somewhere but i never had the occasion for it

Video - Media Player Classic
Music - Winamp

Although I'll vote for MPC since I'm more likely to watch something than listen to music from my PC nowadays.

i shoulda known that.

You can add them with CCCP manually anyway, as I'm sure you'll know. Isn't it however more of the fact that it's disabled by default (realplayer and quicktime playback) rather than missing though?

VLC for me i never get tired of seeing my Digital video collection constantly streaming as my desktop back ground. lol Boondock saints 1 + 2 movies as desktop backgrounds makes me day more enjoyable when bored. Add in the all in one no muss no fuss cant fuck it up video player and music i stick to WMP

i find VLC to be quite good, except for its odd incompatibilities. for example, it hates SPDIF passthrough for digital audio.

anywho .... I use wmp with Shark007's free (vista/7) codecs. Seems better than wmp+k-lite or wmp+cccp. and I like kmp player too.

itunes and realplayer are the worst crap eva. period.

i'll agree with you there on shark and WMP, CCCP is clearly designed for use with MPC-HC

I guess I might be trying CCCP for my next codec pack ;)

MPlayer and VLC in Windows/Linux and Movist on the Mac.

I use KMPlayer and Windows Media Player.

I have used Winamp since the stone age, and I simply can't get used to Windows Media Player ever since they moved on from the Classic (was it WMP6?) to their "Modern and intuitive" interface.

After acquiring my first 100GB's of music, I discovered Winamps Library system and I haven't looked back. Actually I have, I tried to find a good free alternative, but I bought Winamp Pro.

For video, I use MPC-HC and the CCCP pack. Been using it for at least 3 years now. Unfortunately I have to pull out VLC in rare cases. VLC ain't bad, but I just don't like it.

As for codecs, I switched to CCCP after several borked and dubious releases of K-Lite. They fucked shit up once, and they will do it again as Mussels linked here earlier. Quality control is important to me and K-Lite fails at it.

*yawn*
remixedcat, you should have searched before making this thread.

Anyway I'm:
Music - Winamp
Video - KMPlayer

Codecs: Shark007's Win7Codec Pack + x64 Components, Real Alternative Lite & QT Lite.

I don't like WMP 12. People worked for years to get a fully intergrated media player (i.e. one that doesn't show a video in a seperate window), now Microsoft has gone backwards.

I stick with WMP 11 for music & most videos and MPC: HC w/ CCCP for anime & stuff WMP can't play.

This thread is more inclusive and comprehensive then the thread you presented.

Pity the poll only has coverage for one option though.

But this narrows it down LOL

WMP for music library
Media Player Classic for movios
