So I am looking to get a tv dvr set-up. I will need a tv tuner, good software, and a remote. If anyone has reccomendations, please let me know. So far all I really know about is beyondtv, which I know is good, but at $180.00 is a little more than I was trying to spend. Thanks.:)

whats your limit

I just got a ATI 650pro, no remote but a great card for the price. I use GB-PVR software it's free and is a full featured media center offering TV,FM radio and a bunch of other options. I use a hd3540 and a very small wifi keyboard with a joystick on it for the remote. The settup works pretty well for me:D
heres a link to the tuner http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815310002

the 600 has worse quality then the 650, its up to you man.

I have a Hauppauge 1600 and i absolutely love it! It works great with vista, and Media Center. It didn't take long to set up, and was a basic plug and play... if you want it with controller, then they have one for $99 I believe..

reviews on newegg said the ati 650 theatre was better

Never cared much for those reviews.. takes more than one place to get good reviews... IMO that is.. Thats why it takes me longer than two days to decide on anything with my computer..
Some people just post those reviews just because they want to with the thing, and not even used it... so how can you really know!? Again IMO

If you can find one, the ATI TV Wonder Elite (550) Remote Control edition is great.

Lots of folks say the image quality rivaled or beat the 650, plus it is less of a hassle. Read up on all the cards you are considering. Not everything is sunshine and unicorns!

I almost got the MSI tuner but the placement of my pci-e x1 is less then ideal and didn't need the remote. From the checking I did before buying my tuner the 650pro has the best image of all software tuners.
One thing to consider also is if a remote is the right input for your needs. I like to be able to us the PC part of my HTPC whenever I fill like it without getting up and finding the keyboard. I've had PC remote in the past and found them to be pretty limited IMO.
I got a link to GBPVR, it takes some setting up but is well worth it.

I was hoping to get a card for under $100 if I go that route b/c I would still need the software, but that may not be realistic. This is what I was looking at: http://www.snapstream.com/products/beyondtv/buywiz-final.asp?country=United%20States&burndvd=Yes&lan=Yes&computer=Desktop&expertise=Yes&source=Digital%20Cable&otahd=No

Comes with everything I would need. From what I can tell that should be pretty solid, most of the other 1600 cards look pretty good on newegg. I guess I was kinda wondering if anybody knew of any other bundle like this for cheaper maybe, or better quality for the same price. Thanks for the help.:)

There is free tuner software like GBPVR,yahooTV and mythtv for Linux. YahooTV has a limited list of compatible tuners but is very easy to configure. VLC can also send the tuners video over network but I couldn't figure out how to change the channel in the short time I messed with it:confused: Using one of the free apps could free up money for your hardware so there worth a look:)
