This was given to me years ago. Apparently the guy tightened his cpu cooler's bracket to tight he didn't see one of the edges of the bracket was hitting one of the choke. He handed it to me when he wants to replace the board cause he's planning to sell it. When I opened it up broken parts of the choke fell at least most of it. Some went missing for some reason. Anyway he took it back and eventually gave it back to me for good but unfortunately the broken off chokes he misplaced it. So I tested the board, placed a Pentium dual core cpu on it and it worked. My concern is this should affect the stability of the voltage being pumped into the cpu right? Is there a temporary fixed on the choke other than desoldering it and replacing a new one (if that is even possible)? Or can I get by installing a low power cpu like a pentium or those low power Core Is and call it a day?

If it's not broken, don't fix it. I believe that's just shielding, should be no big deal.

Thats just the ceramic shell. The choke is still fine. If you want maybe you can throw some sort of clay or something around it, but other then maybe coil whine it should work just fine.

i concur with the others.

That said, it isn't a terribly hard fix, if you do that sort of thing or know someone who does. I'd probably hit in and around it with some air and maybe a tooth brush. Those ferrite beads are press formed, and when they break, they tend to crumble a bit at the edges. Don't want hidden bits of iron floating around.

if it still works, rock it.
