I think they should switch to WWI, so we can have a different theater and then see if gamers complain more or less. Trench warfare FTW!

they did make a game based on the American civil war, it wasn't...err...fun (had muskets and such) granted i am absolutely sick of WWII games its a played out war, and come on how many damn games do you need to liberate the same damn city from the Nazi's? cod4 with its flaws was a breath of fresh air to move away from our nazi killing for fathers to a more modern arab killing situation it has awesome graphics, awesome yet flawed physics, and an overall fun game, with modern weapons and modern vehicles, if i have to kill another nazi using a gweher or an Thompson so help me god...

now this is the worst possible situation for FPS to be in let alone a WWII shooter to be in, its being made by treyarch, do i really need to say more?

@ candle now a civil war or American revolution game made by infinity ward, that would be worth playing

(im not racist, i would just rather kill something other than nazi's for a change)

This WWII thing is getting kinda old :(
They need to do something a little new and different, I like Cod4, the others eh not so much, although good games...

How about a WWIII? or something different at least...

Yea a fictional WW3 would be pretty tight. Altho I think EndWar already did that.

Was it as good was what they could do though?

I mean there are lots of futuristic war games but good ones are limited.

I think the reason WWII is so popular is because every country can relate, so it sells all over the world. If it is like the Gulf War, the US will buy it, but the other parts of the world would be like, what is the Gulf War?

jesus, van, spelling.

I think they'll just move locations. CoD4 moved around various places in the world (i have no idea where, i didnt pay that much attention) so they can simply reuse the engine, add a few weapons and bam, new location means new game.

I wish they'd make an expansion pack before the sequel, however.

WW2 theme is GREAT when done well. And its good on the technology side too... no über guns that complete unbalance the game... and result in the need for "boss levels" to raise the punishment bar due to the über guns.

However, we have seen too many POOR WW2 games that the theme has been spoiled and tarnished. I have to say when MoH and COD first came out... they were a lot of fun and very engaging, and, at the time, excellent. I remember upgrading to a Radeon 8500 to cope with MoH. Although now I PAIN to replay them due to being so clunky and outdated.

However, I disagree with the comment that each game is just an "expansion". Take a look at MoH/COD vs. Brothers in Arms vs. Battlefield. Very different in implementation. BiA was a fantasic change in level design and AI. Problem was, it played like a console port, and the grenades were unusable from a controller standpoint (very different control from any other PC FPS grenades).

Now take a look at STALKER and COD4, and what we see from FarCry 2 previews. Against very different engine and game concept (irrespective of improved graphics). Take the best elements of all 5 engines and level designs and you could come up with a fantastic WW2 themed game.

But a little more creativity would be good in the design. Not *just* Normandy and Stalingrad, but other, and more complex, worlds.

And please no linear "corridor" maps and scripted spawns and jump outs. Much better to have STALKER type open playground with independent AI.

whatever setting they use in COD5,lets just hope it'll be greater than COD4,and more engaging, and hopefully a LONGER single player campaign, cause frankly the campaign in COD4 was pathetically short, albeit realy interesting.

They made a HL1 mod for the American Civil War..that was really good in it's prime, they're still making the HL2 version..
I just finished playing COD1:UO, that's a game right there.
I have COD2, just can't run it yet...won't accept anything lower than a 6xxx nvidia card...lol
COD4 I will be buying for my next LAN..I want to get like, a nice FPS set going before we move onto RTS...haha
As long as it's implemented well, I'll play wherever Infinity Ward dictate; Treyarch, no thanks.

a good ww2 on a good modern engine with lots of eye candy and top class physics would be great, and you know it.

but activision have said they are going to just reuse the engine and add more on the modern theme. im not assed tbh as it aint cod if it aint iw, did you not play cod3?

Sounds like you're talking about Brother In Arms: Hell's Highway. It looks good, can't say if it is good. :p

I'm a bit bored of the WWII story, however WWI might be more interest as my area of knowledge for that period of time is excessively lacking, playing a decent factual based WWI shooter would be educational and entertaining.

I'm speaking shit there I expect.

it could always be Call of Duty 5 - Pirate Master, and base it around a 1800's naval base ?

altho i am starting to like msome of the idears that have come up here, a game based around either ww2 or modern times, but alot more open would be great, but also having the ability to command a squad in some basic way would be great, be in just wrighting this i have realised this has been done several times before and some what floped

I'd guess there's still plenty of unscathed territory in the WW2, we've just seen the Normandy/Africa/Berlin/Stalingrad axel so far. Most of the WW2 games are taking place AFTER the USA joined the war, so guess that limits the array. There'd be some battles and such before June 6th, 1944... but not everyone would find that entertaining. Some small battle in the top of Scandinavia wouldn't be appealing to the (dumb) American masses.

On the other hand, all the major and great battles have been done. But what about a ''new'' angle, such as a German soldier? That'd cause some controversy, though.

why not an american revolution shooter  obviously it wouldnt appeal much to an international audience but it could still be fun. you shoot your rifle and take 8 seconds to reload it before you get shot at. haha.

an open style game either WW1, WW2 or the year 4000 would be good if depending on how you fight and your outcome in a battle shapes the rest of the war would be good .... or maybe somthing where you choose what building to place the MG or where to hide that sniper or mines, or even where to dig in and make a makeshift trench ....
also i wouldnt mind seeing somthing simlar to americas army where for example on the hardest dificualty you have to qualify to be able to use particular weapon and features such as even the pistol/ smg/ rifle/ grenade/ explosives/ stealth tactics (sniper)/ medi packs/ air strikes/ morters strikes/ even to be the squad leader, and depending on what you pass you have access to, so if you dont become a leader for example you have to follow the other guys but you may have more fun hiding in the building with the MG insted of hanging back giving orders and calling in the air strikes...

it would be good if to become a medic you had to pass a medic course like In AA, or to become a officer you have to do some sort of officers training (target ID's, squad commands, tatical training, map reading (arty strikes) even basic language skills... i could go on for ever

dam it would be soooo good

EDIT: i just had to had to become a sniper you had to pass tests in where you needed to understand how to shoot ling range, like bullet velosity/ weight/ coefficentcy, distance of the shot, elevation, wind drift, angle of fire, temperature, humidity and even the effect of shooting through a mirrage .. (i only say this because i had to learn all this to shoot my .223 past 1000 yards all with a 2 second flight time, how cool...
