Are the remaining 2 drives the same model drives? If so it could be the board on the HD that is dead. If it is making sounds when you shake it it may not be entirely abnormal. If the drives are the same model and have the same firmware revision and you do not mind gambling, you need to get yourself some security hex bits think I just used a #7 on an old WD drive and swap the boards. See if that gets the old drive to spin up. And whatever you do, DO NOT shake the drive anymore. :twitch:

One final update I'd like to throw in:

After unable to access the data in the failed HDD by any possible means, I sent it to the folks at ESS Data Recovery (datarecovery.com). They told me that if they recovered the data, the would charge me $960 after discounts. I said cool, go ahead. After about 2 months of the "engineer trying to recover the data over and over again", they failed to recover anything and basically just had me waiting the whole time. Funny because when they first inspected it, said the chances of recovery were good, failed, and ultimately sent it back to me (at no cost, of course).

So I said, eh, the data I have in there is really important, let's give it another shot with these drive savers guys (drivesavers.com). So I sent it to them, and after initial inspection, the dropped me a tag of $2,300 (HOLY JEEBUZ!), and I said "well, recover the data first, then we can talk about money". Not really having hopes of recovering the data, but it doesn't hurt to give it a last time. Just a few days after that inspection, they call me again to tell me they were unable to recover the data. Of course I was not surprise and have to bite my finger for being a dumbass and not backing up that data.

Ironically, stuff like this has happened to me several times in the past, and I never seem to learn from it. 5 years ago I had a malfunction with my OS HDD, but eventually, was able to recover the data on it on my own. My laptop's OS almost entirely got corrupted, unable to boot by any means just 5 months ago. Using my haxorz skills and messing with things here and there, I got it boot once more. All those times, I've been lucky to recover the data, but not this time. This time luck said screw you with a kick in the face. Pictures, music, videos, and most importantly, important documents were in that HDD which is now gone.

I just got the HDD back from DriverSavers TODAY and called Western Digital to eat their shitty drive and send me a replacement. I haven't used my desktop the past 10 months because of this nonsense, and relying 100% on my Envy 173D laptop for everything ever since, where I played Dragon Age 2 but wouldn't dare to play Crysis 2 on it. Once WD sends me the replacement, I plan on using it with my other VelociRaptor and set a RAID 1 configuration. Along with that, I had bought a 3Tb external a couple of months ago for all the back up to go to. Lesson finally learned.

Never. Never tried looking into them, and I think backing up things on your own is better than having something add to your monthly bill.

But yeah a grand to $2000 grand, really? not to get my balls busted for saying who does online back up's for around 9-10 dollars a month, but it's a good deal considering the sudden cost of what you were going through. I can afford a ten spot every month but 1-2 grand drop in one shot  :slap: :wtf: ;)

I honestly don't see anything wrong on the caps. And I keep going through them.

Quick blurry pic of mobo: http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/4618/imag0004ne.jpg

I also tried turning the thing on with the 300W PSU from my old desktop. Everything turns on except the CPU fan. And then I try putting a different CPU fan, and that one won't spin either, with or with the GPU inserted.

check the voltage at the CPU fan pins. is the fan good? i hope you tried the fan in the chassis fan connector too.

Something extremely weird just happened. I heard a pop inside my desktop, causing the whole thing to shut down. When I try to turn it on, next thing I know the CPU fan is no longer spinning (all is properly connected), while the GPU fan (ASUS 5870) is spinning at max making all the noise it possibly can make. Nothing would show up on the screen, no BIOS, no nothing, just a black monitor waiting to detect something.

I honestly have no clue what to do. I removed the GPU, shut everything down, retry to turn it back on, same thing. Am I supposed to contact a technician? I'm out of ideas.

I tried disconnecting and replugging just about everything. GPU, RAM, etc... The PC's been working fine for months now, however, it's not even a year old. Did the CMOS, removed battery, and visually, I don't see anything wrong with any of the components. Thanks in advance.

ya know... this sounds like when the 12V aux CPU power connector isnt plugged in. i didnt read every post in the thread, but did you double check that - as well as check that connector with a multimeter? (with it plugged in, you can stick the multimeter into the back of the cable)

Nope, still there. Post #19:
