Crossfire 4830's on a P35 motherboard?

I think what I am most worried about is maxing out my psu.

Ill be running an oced q6600, 2x oced 4830s, 2x dvd burners, & 4x sata hdds on a 550w psu. I think I am kind of pushing the limit lol. :laugh:

I read a review once regarding x16/x4 crossfire, and the performance gain is very minimal.

I'm curious to see what kind of performance hit there is versus 16x and 4x on PCI-e 1.1. Good luck to you hope you'll be happy with it.

I think this all comes down to dollars and cents. If you find a super cheap 4830, Which isnt hard, go for it and you will be future proof for your 24" monitor down the road. I wouldnt worry about the 4 lanes vs 8 lanes. The second card doesnt need as many and it'll still work great.

Hopefully ill get the card soon. Its coming from canada. But its in British Columbia and I am in Washington state. Which are right next to eachother, so its really not that far. Hopefully it won't get stuck in customs.

Even with the second slot being x4, there should still be a performance gain over a single card. And use both crossfire connectors, that should help remove some of the communication restriction from the PCI-e bus.

All the P35 vs. x38(or x16/x16 vs. x16/x4) reviews use the older HD2900 cards, since those are the cards from the time of P35/x38. So I don't know how much more the HD4830 will struggle with the x4 bandwidth compared to the HD2900s, but from what I've seen the difference is usually only a few FPS, maybe 10, but it was still certainly better than a single card especially as resolution went up.

the performance hit shouldn't be very bad, usually nvidia cards take a more massive hit than ati's on 4X and lower, when I had my old HD3850 vs my 8800GS, the GS would get its performance cut in half almost at 4X but my HD3850 did pretty good with it like 15 % tops

never had a 4830 though

i got a P35(MSI Neo F-R) also so I will be waiting

Yeah I think the results will be a lot better than most people expect. But we shall see.

I don't recall who has it, but someones signature here has a HD4350 cut down to a pci-e 2.0 x1 slot, and it took a pretty decent hit down to 1x, considering that's half the bandwidth on a MUCH slower card. I'm anticipating it'll be a relatively big hit.

fyi the 1x slot is pcie 1.1
