Crossfire 4830's on a P35 motherboard?

I can but it won't be prime stable without crazy volts. I could probably run through 3dmark though with decent volts. Maybe if I lapped it and the heatsink I could have some better luck. Only problem is it is putting even more strain on my psu, which I think I am getting close to maxing out as it is.

I bought this chip from erocker. He said he was able to get it to 4.0ghz but he had it under water and probably was running crazy volts through it.

you shoulda heard how many people went off at me for trying the same thing on a P35 a few months back... no one beleived me when i said the performance hit wasnt that bad.

Oh noes i got a 50% speed boost instead of 70%... its uhm, still 50% faster

I gained 2672 pts in 3dMark06 and 3369 pts in 3dMark Vantage.

I would consider that a pretty substantial increase. I wonder if I would get an even bigger increase if I used two crossfire bridges. (I only have 1 right now)

nup. i tried all that myself, it makes no difference. same goes for raising the PCI-E frequency to 110. OCing my cards made no difference til 3.8Ghz, but as you're on lower end cards it may help you.

Ima have to say a big Hell No on a P35 board, from what ive seen you'll get around or generally worse than single card performance. *sometimes* better.

But hey, im sure there are users who disagree of even have had scenario's where it has worked well for them.

in a nutshell, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole, best of luck if you do.

Ha my thoughts too. I think my results turned out pretty good. I still might sell my current board and go with a msi p45 platinum. The extra pci-e bandwidth would probably help a little but I want the higher FSB support and lower heat/power usage on the chipset.

there are some p45 platinums on ebay for 80 shipped.

basically it works as thus: you never ever get slower than one card. you always get a boost, be it 10% or 80% - and right now he's got two cards ready to go when he gets his new motherboard.

Its win/win - he just has less immediate win, in exchange for long term win.

I could have sworn some P35 tests showed worse results, or stuttering or something BUT;

if hes seeing at least minimal gains, and nothing "slower" s'all gewd

- P45's are teh shiznit too, CF loves them, 8x/8x @ 2.0 will be plenty for a pair of 4830's.
