Crysis 2 will be initially released as a DX9 Title?

Just sounded like you were saying it was a bad version of DX

compared to 11? yes. 10 i'm more ambivalent about. it was flawed.

I have to agree. Didn't see much of DX10, DX 11 came very quickly after 10

10's main screwups were broken AA (thanks nvidia) and refresh rate issues (60Hz interlaced was preferred over 59.97Hz progressive... yay! thanks... everyone, for not fixing that)

11 fixed those, and added potential performance improvements (tesselation, direct compute) so i want it to take off faster.

Some will argue its because of the PC market that Crytek is doing it.

it's because of PC market that all developers are running to consoles...

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE:

Unreal Engine 3, the industry's most used(and a bit shoddy looking, except the newer titles) engine now officially has DX11 support and some stupid nVIdia APEX thingy..

DX11 with it's features(showcased at GDC) is a good news. Why? Most games whether you know it or don't, are either using UE3, or built on top of it, so this is a good news for PC games and their visuals. We should see some games on this soon.

Maybe Bioshock Infinite?

Hey look, more reason not to buy it. Heck, I bought Crysis for $10 and felt ripped off, so I guess had no real intent on purchasing the second one anyways.

because the whole point of DX10 and 11 was better graphics at the same performance. with this stupid patch mentality, we get very slightly better graphics at massive performance hits.

microsoft sucks for a long time now

... yeah. clearly microsofts fault for making all these terribly coded games.

Xbox360 = the biggest hardware technological failure in history of gaming
windows 7 = vista patch
DX10 = fail (nvidia conspiracy)
DX11 = big dx10 patch
Xboxlive = A joke , for kids, noobs, nolifers and immature consumers. (should be taken as a joke if you're serious)
bing = google clone (couldn't do it without yahoo) (something smells fishy around here)
halo reach external HDD requirement = the biggest ripoff in history of gaming

Microsoft is the best example of corporate parasitism that eats other companies in order to be successful , there is ONLY a FEW products that microsoft has made it ORIGINALLY , everything else is corporate colonialism.

If you pick up a console, play it for some time, a few games , friends and so on , fine all good A okay, but if you're a microsoft fanboy or even praising ANY of microsofts products you just have to fit into the upper legend.

A company with all microsoft's assets that would be in hands of a honest and technologically owner and maybe even private, would have done a better job at product quality and innovation, the point is , it's a business and they need those numbers , they play a game of corporate "balance-sheet-athon" which means that only the lines "growth" and "profit" matters , nothing else.

to bad Far Cry 2 was the biggest joke of a game i have ever played. The graphics for crysis 2 might not be as good as Crysis 1, but the story is a hell of a lot better!

FarCry 2 wasn't made by Crytek.

But I agree, it was one of the most stunning game engines lumbered with one of the most boring games in existence. didn't stop it getting rave reviews from all quarters though.

farcry 2 was a sad sad story so much wasted time

They either released the leak intentionally to get us thinking they might release the game with DX11 (Since it had DX11 files).

Or the game will be released with DX11.

No official announcement or one that says DX11 will be added via Patch clearly indicates its the former.

If they don't give us DX11 from day one they better dam well make a miracle patch.

To bad that there are no other games that use Dunia Engine from Far Cry 2 (Avatar: the game might use a modif version...)...The engine is so much better than the Unreal Engine 3, specially for big outside maps...The Cry Engine 3 also sucks big time, since is obviously made for consoles.

Yeah. They wasnt that aggresive in promoting the engine looks like it.. unlike UE3, IdTech, Source.. in anycase, if you look at it, those are legacy tech (UE, IdTech, Source.. that is just built on top of / enhanced from old school framework) Perhaps most of the devs are oldies who wouldnt touch these new stuff popping up and has that attachment to engines that they are more familiar with.. thus rapid development achieved.

10's main screwups were broken AA (thanks nvidia)

I fail to see how you blame Microsoft's screw up on nVidia... How are you linking those two?

Because nVidia's hardware didn't support DX10.1, which was just an performance improvment that didn't help ATi enough to overcome nVidia hardware anyway? So you think Microsoft, a company insanely larger than nVidia, would bow to nVidia's wishes? Hardly logical in any way. Microsoft fucked up DX10, they patched it with DX10.1 to help performance, but nVidia cards even running DX10 were still faster than ATi cards running DX10.1 in the few games that developers used DX10.1 in, and most of the developers didn't want to bother implementing DX10.1 in projects that were already close to completion.

the AA problems were solved in DX10.1

DX10.1 was the original DX10 spec. nvidia failed to meet it (Nvidia wanted to do what they did with the original Xbox and use that as leverage to force the specs to go their way - didnt work out for them since they didnt get the GPU in the 360)., so specs were lowered so they could join the party.

Therefore, thanks to nvidia lowering the standards, we lost the AA.

if you think its microsofts fault, you really need to google into it some more.

The news I read from legit sources said otherwise. DX10 was the original DX10 spec, DX10.1 was implemented to fix Microsoft's mistakes.

All the googling I've read either lead to legit sources stating nothing about DX10.1 being the original spec, or a bunch of random people that have nothing to do with Microsoft blaming it on nVidia.

I mean, it doesn't even make sense, ATi didn't support DX10.1 either with their first gen DX10 cards, and they were late to the show... so ATi failed to meet the spec too by your logic...why not blame it on ATi as well? Or is it ok that ATi didn't manage to meet the spec, despite the cards coming 6 months later, but nVidia not meeting it made Microsoft(a much larger and more powerful company) purposely cripple their software. That actually sounds logical to you?

Or is it more logical that Microsoft released the DX10 spec, both nVidia and ATi started designing cards around it, and later Microsoft decided to release DX10.1?

I decided not to preorder this. BF3 is around the corner

http://www.dvhardware.net/article48740.html

you cannot but water....

But I don't see any of this in Crysis 2 demo

i second the above statement.

I have cancelled my preorder and here is my logic why;

1) If it gets released and is a brilliant game the price is unlikely to climb so I will just buy it straight away

2) If it is a brilliant game but has loads of bugs, it will get bad reviews and price will drop, then I buy after the first patch release

3) If it is a rubbish game with nothing special I wont buy at all!
