Dark Mode - Feedback please

WTH, why is it automatically Dark Mode when I open the site?
I should be able to opt in if I want it.
I guess I'll get used to it.
Edit, I can't tell the difference between threads I have already read, and those I haven't.
Blue is an awful choice for the thread titles.

It follows your system setting by default, which kinda makes more sense than forcing light mode on everyone by default?

wait wait wait ... so the dark mode i got yesterday, and did not activate myself, was normal ... and not a bug like i had on Opera GX since almost a year (yep ... i use GX for almost everything and Chrome for TPU because the dark mode bug on GX looked like a negative image ...

i was about to change my "TPU Browser" again ... well, "maybe don't make the default as "follow the system settings""... would be my recommendation/feedback the principal one...

other than that, hum, yeah it look better than negative color bug ... for sure, now i would use it in dark mode (eh... maybe it will work on GX too... )

edit: that's hilarious ... "follow system" show dark mode normally, light mode : negative bug but more tame (only some badge and emote are in negative ) and Dark mode work fine...

oh, well now i can finally use one browser

well you can opt in ...

nope not really ... i have my system in dark mode but not my browsers or websites that have dark mode

same on my phone ;)

Bold vs non-Bold, maybe the color should change too?

XenForo uses the standardized "@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark)" CSS media query

XenForo uses the standardized "@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark)" CSS media query

uh? so it will always default to that option... the forum user should always have the option and not a "by default we look at your system and decide for you" ;)

user preferences for OS interface are not user preference for everything shown on screen ... i have most of my web browsing in light mode because it's easier to read certain type of forums (and TPU is one) but since Dark mode work on GX, i will browse in Dark mode from now on because i don't want to use a separate browser for TPU because Light mode bug on GX

in short, i prefer my OS UI in dark, but i don't always prefer dark everywhere else

Thanks, I noticed I had it set to my system default after I posted confused.

That's the issue, I can't see a difference between bold or non bold, especially certain colours like red and blue. Lol mix those two and my brain malfunctions and I can't read anything.

"by default we look at your system and decide for you"
By default we ask your browser, using the mechanism invented to answer this one specific question, and respect that answer

I can't see a difference between bold or non bold
But light mode uses bold, non-bold, too?

except it's not an overall preference, in my case, imho an headline in the news "Dark mode available on TPU: here how to activate it" would have been better than a default setting

because i was literally pulling my hair (not that i have a lot of them left) on Chrome yesterday, because i thought it was another bug and scoured all setting, extension and right click options the whole evening, without, obviously, finding anything ...

if i didn't see the thread 10-15min ago ... i would not have seen or known the toggle was bottom left

(well i should still look why light mode bug and show the negative color effect i mentioned ... )

dark mode is good, but not for me. I prefer text on white
if possible put dark mode toggle somewhere in the top, so it's more convenient not in some bottom

I thought about that, but how often are you really changing the setting?

if you want to laugh, this is the front page of TPU on GX

and i am not using any extension nor settings in GX for forcing dark mode on website

well at least i can read the forum without that :D

Just added based on your feedback
oh, well you have my thanks then :)

not bad. darkmode for the main site will come, too, eventually, not very soon
oh, no no no, it is bad ... all pictures, emotes and badges look in negative ... it's a bug i have since almost a year and it only happens on TPU
and since it also affected the forum (and still affect it when in light mode) i had to wait till today to be able to drop Chrome as my "TPU exclusive browser"

Oh wow. Finally my eyes won't feel like they're on fire every time I visit whatever fire happening here. Good job.

looks way better than any browser extension.

Wow, awesome update!

Home and Forum have different settings, home is light and forum is dark.

otherwise love it, cause I mainly use dark mode and whenever I visit TPU I go blind briefly.

IMO dark mode is a bit too dark for how bright the text is - it's a pretty harsh contrast, at least on this monitor.

The combination of colors in info about changing the TPU to dark mode is strange.

Thank you so much W1zz! I know many of us have been dying for this feature. Ill let you know if I run across anything!

Curious, is there a way to move the toggle for dark/light mode to an easier to find location? Such as up by the user name?

Having it down at the very bottom of the page is an odd (and very poor location) and most people will forget it is there and be asking where to find it as time moves on.

No built in way, but I can always hax it. But how often do you realistically switch between light and dark mode?

I usually don't. Other sites that people may use tend to have a toggle for it up near the top so it's easy to locate. Granted not all sites have easy to find toggles, but if that's the case then I just turn on Dark Reader for the site in question.

A few sites I visit, the toggle is at the top:

I don't really frequent gamespot very often anymore. While the site does have a dark mode, it's not easy to find. You have to go into the account settings and choose light or dark mode. As I said, not all sites have an easy to spot location, but generally a toggle is in the top right side area so it is easy to find and more intuitive.

It's not a big deal if XenoForo doesn't allow it, it's just the location of it seems really odd. It's entirely up to if you wish to see if you can, as you say, "hax it".
