DirectX 10 and XP

Hi,

I want to run Crysis on DirectX 10. Do I need DirectX 9 after I install DirectX 10 and do I need to uninstall DirectX 9 before I install DirectX 10. Thanks.
 
XP doesn't and can't support DX10. You can get a config folder for Crysis that makes it look almost as good in DX9 tho.
 
DX10 will not work in XP.
only in Vista.
 
and we shall await the birth of DX11...

You can find a config for crysis that allows the game to run in better graphics. You can't run DX10 on winxp though only in vista and windows 7. http://www.incrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=18999

DX10 only adds a few shadows and so on...not really worth it IMO even though I have Vista Ultimate x64 on dual boot I still play all my games in DX9.
 
Thats DX10 acid... Nvidia screwed DX10 up majorly. DX10.1 on the other hand made it easier to code and use, more efficient to run and less of a memory hog. Nvidia doesn't have true DX10 and never will simple as that.

well if someone was asking about directx10 for windows XP .... there it is....

Microsoft made DX10, nVidia just provided hardware for it(as did ATi). DX10.1 was also a creation of Microsoft, it doesn't do anything you claim it does, it really only adds a few extra features. ATi has decided to support DX10.1, nVidia hasn't. It seems the game developers have decided not to support DX10.1 either... Nvidia has had true DX10 support since G80, they won't have DX10.1 support until they release their DX11 hardware at the end of the year, any by then no one will really care about DX10.1...so nothing will really change actually.:laugh:

The gist of it is that DX10.1 removes unnecessary rendering passes that DX10 would actually need. Thus improving performance when using using AA for example.
 
nothing is impossible with computers. If you can think of it... chances are, someone else has already thought of it and programmed it.
