AFAIK, M$ doing this about second year, 'cause I have all dx 2009 redist files, without any "9.0c". So, seems it's not an innovation.

I wish they would put the latest DX on Windows Update. Surely, it's just as worthy as Office etc??

because it was called "directX 9.0C Feb 2010" people thought it only updated directX 9.

In many threads/conversations with people, i've had to explain to them that just because they have vista/7 with DX10/11, doesnt mean that their DX9 files cant be outdated... and then, the next step, that MS actually had 10/11 updates included in the '9.0c' updater boggled them even further.

i 100% agree it should have been in windows update 5 years ago.

not sure that its worth a sticky, cause then people will want stickies for driver updates too...


as it stands, new games come withj the new directX installs, so its not often you actually need the updates, unless you're an update addict like we are.

Instead of downloading the entire 90+ MB offline installer, use the 500 KB online installer. It will download only those updates you've been missing.

i prefer the larger file, because its less bandwidth overall if you store it for other machines/when you format.

When you format, your Windows 7 DVD already gives you 90% of the DirectX offline installer (updated till then), leaving only some 10% to download using the online installer. In turn it saves bandwidth.

i use these installers far more than once in those 6 month gaps between updates from MS.

thats something i should have mentioned as well - what if you format/reinstall and dont have net access at that time? the redist is a lifesaver.
