I use AVIRA ; disable when playing games ; enable after.

I can second that.. I dislike NOD32 internet security...

Although I REALLY HATE KIS 7.0, but that's old so it doesn't really matter anymore.

The internet security though is still the antivirus, what you have to remember is that its a last chance shot to keep clean, the virus comes out then the antivirus catches up. No matter what you run you can get infected..

I just removed McAfee, Norton, Trend and SpySweeper off a computer this morning, yes all of them running at once.... You can imagine how well that worked... Anyways it was caked with viruses, 11596 of them.

I haven't use KIS 7.0 but KIS 09 is better than any internet security i'd used lately. NOD32 internet security didn't even detect the startup trojan I think that was svghost.exe uninstalled it and install KIS09 detects and removes fast... but some issues of KIS 09 I had was playing a music or movie on media player 11 instant bsod and some of my games were block...

When our firewall died, our NAV install directory was infected on our server - it was a nightmare - everyone installed it and it quarantined almost everyones entire harddrive!!!!

Totally Insane! Had to cold boot all machines using the FPROT CD and clean them all up.

LOL, jtleon

this is version 7.51 - from way back - I've been using this since Windows 9X days.

Would you post your taskmanager screenie for Nod32...I'd like to see it in action.

Many Thanks, jtleon

I'll try to remember to do that when I get home.

When did this happen.

It happened mid 2005, after an intense electrical storm - (our monsoon season).

I use Eset NOD32 on all my machines. Smallest footprint and its on all the time.

People hate on it because its difficult to pirate it.

LOL It's easy to pirate it....

But, difficult to just get a copy online and call it a day.

It doesn't have the smallest footprint anymore. My KIS installation takes up 12-18MB of ram.

I use AVG Free, and am very careful about what I do. I used to have Comodo firewall and AVG, but it was overkill and my new DSL modem has a hardware firewall.

Internet without Anti-Virus/Spyware protection is DANGEROUS!!!!!

What do you care about just ~20Mb of memory use, while u have 2GB Hi perfomance RAM. Have a power hardware, Better we using it at optimum level. Feature software is need more space, u can compare win Xp with win Vista. Technology also growth every days & nowaday price become cheap & cheap until the next level coming.

So, dont stuck at low memories using anymore. use at Max & support the latest technology.

Antivirus using a lot of ram has no performance benefits at all. It is not the same as comparing Vista and XP. In vista, if you need that ram, it gives it back. A ram hogging anti virus does not give it back if you need it, and instead you go to the pagefile.

There is a difference between efficiently using ram like Vista, and just hogging ram, like Norton.

Yeah, not same. if u really care about perfomance, better uninstall KAV & i suggest Spybot for yr security. Disable some function that u no use in vista. that might give some memory back to u......

have u monitor or not that when yr PC is using full of 2GB memory? :rockout:

I heard many said that Kaspersky and NOD are among the best.

I've use Bit Defender before, & i try KAV6 & love it & now KAV2009.

Both Vista and XP are already slimmed down for me. Even with 2GB of ram, I still get into the pagefile sometimes, especially in Photoshop.

ZoneAlarm AV and Firewall. And, some online scanners when I suspect something is out of whack(not picked out by the others).

I not familiar with photoshop but refer from u, that Photoshop is use a large ammount of memories because u may be edit for High definition image or what. So event u disable KAV that use only ~20Mb, also no use. So when u know the program use such that big memories, u better upgrade it to 4GB- just buy another 2GB.
Im use 4GB RAM, always run google earth with maximum chace (~2.5Gb mem using) & i try run Crysis with current balance mem 1.5Gb, It's still smoof.

Because u was use window X64, u can using Memories at max level (where win X32, max mem use is ~3.5GB only). So i suggest upgrade yr mem. It's cheap now.

I am not using any antivirus, spyware... :)

I never said Kaspersky used too much memory. I said it used very little memory. Less than almost all other AV's. And that's a good thing. Reread my posts.
