Does an AMD Sempron 3000+ Support Compare exchange 128?

Is there a LTSC Version for WiN11?

My end goal here is actually to try and get Windows 11 installed on the oldest possible hardware just for a fun project, not to get a usable system. From what I see, once you disable the checks the real minimal requirements for CPU are very similar to Windows 10 64 bit. I wanted to work my way up in steps to 11.
From what I gather, the earliest AMD architectures to support CMPXCHG16B were released for Socket AM2 in May 2006. They are:
Manila F2 (Sempron)
Orleans F2 (Athlon 64)
Windsor F2 (Athlon 64 X2)
The slowest CPU from that generation is the Sempron 2800+ 1.6 GHz with 128K L2 cache.

As far as I know, no earlier AMD architectures/platforms support all the instructions required by Win10.

I am greatly interested in your project! I have built two Win7 systems using the absolute minimum hardware, one using Intel and the other AMD. Fingers crossed for your rig and keep us posted! :)

It was an SSD pulled out of another machine with a 64 bit copy of w7 professional installed.

Memory was sitting about 50% most time, so not an issue.

Idle CPU usage was reasonable but ghe CPU was pegged any time I tried to do anything, like open Firefox even.

My guess is partially down to the 128k cache and it being a lower end CPU even when it was new.

Sempron 3000+ from which platform mate? Socket 462? Windows 7 will be as good as it gets then.
64bit windows does not work on 32bit CPUs, if he has a 754 or 939 it will work due to AMD64 instructions

Why would that be? Windows 7 runs decent on s754 so long as you keep your background processes in check. Can't run the world on 1-2 GB of memory these days you know.... lol

W7 32 ran great on a 462 Cpu.

You can get a W10 shell for W7 so it looks all fancy and has all the cool sounds and stuff. I know this isn't the same thing as running W10, but believe me, on socket 754, you would eat all of the resources just for the operating system. W10 is just too heavy for stuff that old.

I would like to see some screen shots though. Not too often you see guys with socket 754 any more!!
The lack of Dual channel memory was what killed it off. 940 and 939 were the solution.

Not as of yet, but that might be possible. It would be nice too!
I'll keep a eye out. I have LTSC on my laptop based HDD IDE and all other on separate drives. Lots of Fun

Since some of you seem to be interested in this, I'll give some more information.

I recently bought a big bundle of motherboards on ebay which includes a lot. But the notable stuff for this are:

PGA478 with Pentium 4 511 (supports 64bit)

Socket 754 w/ Sempron 3000+

AM2 board w/ Athlon 64 3800+ and Athlon 64 x2 3800+

Lga775 w/ Pentium 4 630 (supports 64bit)

There is older that definitely won't work and newer stuff that won't be a challenge, but that is the stuff I'm probably going to try.

My experience was the same with the slowest 64-bit Sempron 2500+. But other than app loading times (up to one minute), I'd say that system was capable of basic browsing and light office work. Not to mention gaming! I've posted this before in another thread:

Won't get me to switch, auto updates are a big no for me.
LTSC does not require auto-updates. It's an admin control thing. Plus, when you disable the "BITS" service, update service and the update helper service, Windows doesn't automatically re-enable it. The Windows 11 version of LTSC should be on PAR with that level of controls.

It's an intriguing proposition.

These are the instructions supported by your Sempron 3000+

Instruction set extensionsAdditional instructions
MMXCLFLUSH
AMD extensions to MMXCMOV
3DNow!CMPXCHG8B
Extensions to 3DNow!FXSAVE/FXRSTORE
SSESYSCALL/SYSRET
SSE2SYSENTER/SYSEXIT

as you can see the instruction need for windows 10 is not available

What about the AthlonX2 that they have, would that work?

The Athlon 64 3800+ (both the single and x2 model) booted Windows 10 64 by simply by plugging in a spare SSD with Windows 10 on it.

Ok, you have a known baseline for 11. Now try installing it on that Athlon64 3800+ using the UEFI/TPM/SecureBoot bypass methods and see what happens.

Athlon 64 3800+
MSI MS-7309 AM2
4GB (2x2GB) PNY DDR2
EVGA GT740 2gb

I originally was going to use another AM2 board I had, but it was agp only and the MSI has an x16 slot. I tried using a period correct Radeon X1650 but some graphics effects were laggy and glitchy in Windows 10, so I threw in the GT740 that actually has proper driver support. Now they don't glitch but are just laggy

Now, how do I get Windows 11 on here.?

I remember you can take a w10 USB and copy over the windows 11 image from a w11 install usb to the w10 install USB.

However, how so I make a w11 install USB since it's not available for download yet?

Most of the videos are focused on insider preview builds and I assume that doesn't apply anymore.

Does that 3000 Sempron have a BX in the part number (E6 Stepping)

Okay found where to get the iso on Microsoft's site. It wasn't as easy to find as It should have been

Ran into a jam. I tried the method where you copy the install.esd file from w11 iso to the w10 USB.

However, when I tried to do this, the install.esd file in the Windows 11 iso does not exist and instead there is a install.wim file in it's place.

What should I do?

Alright, "burned" the iso to a USB using Rufus which has an option to remove the install requirements.

However I am having issues getting the system to boot into the installer. I keep getting stuck at the windows logo and it won't go further

USB IS bootable in another computer, so I'm not sure what's going on.

it's probably something to do with poor USB booting support, but I can't put w11 on a dvd

Windows 11 has at least the same requirements as Win10 x64 and Win8.1 x64 (Win11 is 64-bit only).

If you manage to get the bootloader running, it's not a USB boot problem.

If this is happening on the Sempron computer, it likely has to do with the Windows Executive not loading due to lack of support for the instructions required (LAHS/LAHF, CMPXCHG16B). Since the Executive holds the memory management system, if the Executive can't use the required instructions, then it will likely get stuck there.

Nope, I've given up with the sempron PC and w11.

It is this computer:

EVGA GT740 2gb
I downloaded the W11 ISO, wrote it to my USB using Rufus with the bypass tpm and secure boot option ticked. I decided to write the partition scheme as mbr, but I am trying again with it set as gpt.

It begins to boot into the installed but freezes at the Windows logo. The activity led on my USB drive flashes quickly like it's trying to do something but isn't working.

I guess it's getting stuck, probably due to a requirement that windows 11 100% needs that I don't have. Any clue what it might be? You wouldn't think the installer would need anything fancy though, so that doesn't make much sense.

I also tried the other am2 board I own and got the exact same results

Windows 11 requires UEFI and doesn't support BIOS. UEFI is from July 2005 (it's technically older, but the EFI specification is a Intel-only thing).

That board is from September 2006 at the latest. It's unlikely it has UEFI (it's not even mentioned in the manual).

Alternatively, check with coreinfo if your processor supports LAHF/SAHF and CMPXCHG16B
