Dying monitor?

Ive had my LCD Samsung SyncMaster 906BW since February 2008 and Ive been very happy with its image quality and responsiveness. Unfortunately, this past week Ive noticed something with it. When I'd turn it on the power light will go on for a couple seconds, make a assorted static-like noises then turn off for a couple seconds and repeat, press the power button does nothing, neither does unpluging it, as soon as I plug it back in it goes back to its thing. It does this for a minute or two before it finally kicks on. Could it be on its way out?

note: once its on it works as it normally would, no abnormal thing happen

It could be fixable, maybe there is too much dust in it. You could try to clean it yourself, but maybe it is better to take it to the nearest service center. it depends on your skills/Monitor warranty. if you decide to open it, then look at power button, button's PCB wires/connectors.

The monitor has had it. Time for a new one. :ohwell:

I've seen lots of Samsung LCD monitors die at work and they all go with strange glitches similar to yours and sometimes "work for a bit".

It's only a couple of years old, so is there any warranty left, perhaps?

EDIT: If it's out of warranty and you're handy with a soldering iron, you could open it up and touch up the solder joints. Get a magnifying glass and a bright LED light to help you spot cracked/dry joints. If this is the only problem and you nail the suckers, then you have a 100% fix.

It has a three year warranty, call Samsung to RMA.

The repair facility is is NJ.

I had this happen to countless monitors and a few iMac G5's.
If I turned on the monitor from cold, it'd take a few goes until it started working. Then if I turned it off and on again, it'd work fine. But if I left it turned off for more than 10 minutes, it'd take a couple of minutes to get going again.
Seems it just took a couple of minutes to "warm up".
I agree with the masses. Monitor's deaded/dying.

Ill have to look into contacting samsung then, if itll cost money to fix it then i might try it myself.

If not, then I have an excuse to spend money on a new monitor.

Yeah, they gave me a extra 3 months on mine for registering it lol.

I sent my 305T in twice, on the third RMA they sent me a 305T Plus and added 90 days to the warranty (which just happened to run out the day after I submitted the RMA).

If the power switch is good, then...

Sounds like, either, 1.) the inverter or back-light may be going or 2.) it has a power supply issue.

Open it up (If, no warranty) and check the caps for bulging and/or leakage.

However, I do believe it should be combined with the dry joint check I suggested in a previous post.

Thankfully, MadClown's monitor still appears to be under warranty, so he won't have to do this.

The caps on the monitor p.s.u if the psu is inside the monitor are on there way out
yes it can be fix,t very easy i have mended lots of monitors over the years and see this,
happen on monitors its the caps craping out not holding there charge i.e volts and the screen
Draws two much power from the dieing caps on the p.s.u
