It's not really worth $19.99. Would have been decent for ~$9.99.
That's just my personal opinion though.

Has anyone tried SKYRIM with the AMD 12.7 beta drivers ???

Appearantly they yield up to 25% performance increase. Lemme know what your results are please, I'll let you know mine as soon as I get back from work

Nah, the game works fine for a lot of people still. Sounds like you have a broken mod, or multiple outdated or broken mods.

I had a housing mod, just a little hunting cabin in the woods that freaked out with 1.7. I had to troubleshoot the game by disabling the mods one by one until I found tha bad one.
It sucked, but I eventually found the problem.

That's the problem with mods, the authors need to update them, they could break the game when new patches are deployed. This is a modder issue, not a game developer issue. They have no control over 3rd party addons.

I would test them out, but it looks like the performance increase only applies to 7xxx series video cards. I only have a 5xxx so it's a no go. :(

I'm having the same crashing at the menu But just started happening yesterday, with all the same mods that it was working fine with the day before. I don't think it was the 1.7 that broke mine.

    I'm mighty glad I bought a 4GB graphics card!
Thanks to everyone who suggested I forget about the 2GB Asus CU II Top and get the Zotac 670 4GB instead!

Here's Skyrim, everything on Ultra @ 2560x1440 , with texture packs, enhanced distant terrain, and I set ugridstoload in the ini file to 9, and I plan to tweak more in the near future.
Still my fps stay between 55 and 60. Occasionally they dip to 49 for a split second, then go up again. Game-play is butter-smooth, I'd think it was always 60 fps hadn't I been monitoring the fps!

Btw, the only thing I haven't got maxed out is AA. I have it at x2 because on this monitor with a low pixel pitch of 0.233 I don't see any difference if I increase it.
But later on today I will be maxing AA just for kicks and to see if my fps suffer as a result. Also to check on vram usage.

    __________________________

Edit Here's with all settings at full, including all AA now. The lowest fps I saw was 42 but that was just momentarily. It still always stays between 52 and 60 fps.
    2621MB of vram usage

Though honestly I really cannot see any difference between 2x AA and 8x AA

I'm tempted to set AA back at 2x but tweak ugridstoload to 11 in the ini file...... :D

Yup... I'm gonna try it :D

Just for curiosity, is 80C normal for a GPU?
Or just for the 670 you got?

On my 2gb 670 I get to 1998mb in skyrim; obviously more vram is never going to hurt, lol

Mines never even hit 65c, and I'm clocked to 1200mhz. But I do have the gigabyte with the triple fans

When I kept my 6990s in the same rig the top one would idle at 80c lol, I won't even talk about load temps

88c and the fan would spin to 100%, that thing surely cools but man if it is noisy.
It wouldn't let the GPU over 90c though (custom AB profile)

Try SSAA. That should help kill your FPS.

or TrSSAA which is much like AMD's Adaptaive Super Sample AA it functions similar to SSAA but with far less performance hit. :toast:

Well, every card I ever owned always went up to 80-85 degrees on load... 8600GTS, 8800GT (used to hit the low 90's), HD5970.. and this one..
Must be something in the climate here I guess! :)

From the logs above you can see the fan never went above 59% at the most. The card is extremely quiet. Perhaps I should find a way to increase fan speed....

When it hits 65% the fan starts to be noisy, at least on my setup.
I am asking because my card too hits 80C

    It's crossed my mind to try . . .

There's just something wrong with the card I think since it didn't get that hot originally. idgaf, it still works lol

The hottest card I ever owned was my 4870x2, and it would hit 70c. At that point it would just crash. I always hear people say 90 - 100c max for cards, but thats the hottest card I have ever owned and it wouldn't even get close to those number before it got upset and just gave up.
