OFFICIAL Elite: Dangerous

I agree with what 'Coon is saying too, and I don't believe this was a recent "oops"... if there was an oops it was that they recently realized they forget to mention it...conveniently.

What I don't agree with you on, is local system load. If their system does in-fact have 400 billion systems, the processing power to procedurally generate the new systems that are being explored for the first time and replicate that to however many thousands of gamers out there may exist could be a huge load and have some major reliability issues. Then again, if it was all local and able to be managed as a really big database...it wouldn't take much but space.

And Star Citizen with its Crysis 3 engine, major graphics and textures, physics engine and semi-static/semi-procedural universe will be huge, not quite..will the details that each handcrafted place take up or even exceed what Elite is doing if both were 100% local?

I am curious to see RSI they end up handling that part as well. Until there is an actual universe to explore like Elite, I am reserving my opinion. RSI has the funds to do whatever they want with SC, and I hope a true offline mode exists even if it is a limited mode.

Just because a PC can run or play Crysis 3/Star Citizen doesn't mean it can handle the data load of a massive universe that might have an unfathomable amount of exploration. But then again, our modern PC's are extremely powerful...I am constantly impressed by my rigs all the time.

Elite looks great without melting copper heat sinks, that's for sure, but I wonder if it would need 40, 80, 100GB? Maybe more? I would like to know more about it.

I honestly was hoping that at some point a space sim would have hosted server galaxies, so if you wanted to rent or run your own galaxy you could...and if you wanted it linked to the other ones it would be a simple flag or check box. Maybe that's still asking too much in 2014.

The last beta before Gamma hits. This is supposed to be a pretty big update.. played some 3.05 this morning cruising around collecting bounties with my Eagle. The kids really really wanna play... I have copilots now, it's been great fun. :D

Does anyone have a link to that video where a guy finds illegal goods just floating about, then docks his plane with no engines?

Gamma 1.0 is out, the download is quick. I've heard between it and the short-lived Beta 3.9 that graphics and performance were improved, a few menu changes, the list that erocker lists above, etc.

Who's tried it out? I've been too damn busy to get a chance...but have the game updated for some quality time this evening. :D

It's solid. No bugs or anything. The galaxy is wide-open and I'm making my pilgrimage to SOL. :)

*Oh! You now start in a random location.. and with only a hundred bucks. Seems as if there are plenty of jobs on the bulletin board to get started though.

I hope to see some of your excellent 60FPS footage too! :D

Dammit now I wanna get in there and start my new save! Soon enough. Just...got...to...finish....homework......

Edit: This is some of the premier video from today's meeting deal. I am looking forward to that instance happening in a war zone.

It does look impressive.... I'm just still stinging over the inability to play without Internet..... especially since I just spent the last 36 hours with my service down....

Gamma released? Time to buy access then!

I don't think you can, iirc they removed prepurchase access after Beta 3.9 was replaced with Gamma 1.0. Please correct me if I'm wrong and you're able to prepurchase with access.

I started in a system way out in the middle of nowhere it seems. The missions are in the 2-4K region, I haven't sold my scanner to add 2 more cargo yet...because there are a couple of un explored systems here and I plan to scan and earn.

I did however enjoy some combat at a star's nav point where I took on several wanted pilot AI's, and lived to post about it here. :D

There was one guy rated dangerous in just a sidewinder like I'm using that was pulling off some amazing piloting stunts...that battle seemed to last eons and was intense all the way through. I loved it!

@Ahhzz

I agree it's a tad frustrating...I have very stable Internet at this point (knocks on wood), but hope to see an offline counterpart, module, dlc, forgiveness patch, or whatever they want to call it in the future. I still believe that it will happen and looking at other games I've backed that ended up giving into that, such as UberEnt and Planetary Annihilation...shows that something like this will happen.

I don't want offline if it's going to be an unpolished mess...so I'd rather them get the game out in it's online suited variant and then focus on the offline portion to release after that if it is truly a case of being so challenging that they didn't realize up until recently it couldn't be accomplished side-by-side with their online game model at this point. Either way I'm staying optimistic about it and hopeful FD will get it sorted.

Well, it's not 2004 anymore. Most games require internet. In ED for solo play it requires a max of 16kb/s. You could always pull out your old phone modem. :p

And it is live!

On my way to see Canis Majoris!

@erocker Is there a list of people playing this game?
I'd like to add some people to my friends list. lol

My in game handle is "Scrizz" lol

I find this game to have more bugs than W1zzards apartment when you turn on the lights.... very disappointing

I've ran into my fair share of bugs too...just got a short run through 1.0x since it launched. But overall the experience was good. Just did a quick run to seven systems around COSI, working with the Cmdr's Log 1.4 x64 to get an idea of commodity trades. I like it without the prices in all honesty...simple interface.

I will say that my experience with the official release was overall really, really good. The areas where there were glitches were the same that I experienced in gamma...kinda disappointing but honestly not surprised. The experience was still totally awesome. I walked away craving more...though SC AC 1.0 was just installed and I haven't really tried it since .90's release, which was before I bought this CH Fighterstick.

I hope FD can keep pushing forward and polish what they have before they try throwing any more wrenches in the mix.

God I want this it looks awesome! iv been waiting for a nice space game. I have high hopes for the other one (cant remember the name) but this one might be more my style.

It's an amazing experience man. Even in its current state, I love it! Addicted. :toast:

So I bought the game and it instantly crashes to desktop..... Launcher says I have a newer version than what the server is at as well..

Interesting...I wonder if they released a patch? I'm in game now...let me hop out and check for updates. Maybe run a file validation from the launcher?

Check even logs too.

Edit: Checked for game updates, none. Most recent news updated is posted for 1.03 as of this writing. The version at the bottom is: V 2014.12.18-54398 0.4.1755.0

Launches back into the game just fine. I'm hoping a validation is all you need. I haven't had any launcher issues like that with this title yet...might be worth checking FD forums about too. Submit a ticket.

I'd say submit a ticket. Have you tried verifying files? I'll relaunch my client and see if it tries to update to 1765.

Maybe perform a reinstallation. I would submit a support ticket first.

Sorry you're dealing with launching issues!!! When you get in the game...feel free to add me. Same name as my forum name.

Edit: I started up my PC (posted this originally from my phone). Game is still 1755, I even ran a File Validation from Options on the launch app...all good. You somehow got a version that's not released yet.

If the file validation is saying all is ok...reinstall, if that for some reason doesn't do the trick....please do submit a ticket to FD.
