OFFICIAL Elite: Dangerous

I'm using EliteOCR and Slopey's trade SQL app to manage my trade games. Much better than my excel spready-sheet :). I have found a good place to sell slaves, and trying to decide it it's worth it to make a 10-hop jump to buy cheap, and then back to sell high. That's a long haul, but it would be a good turnaround. I dunno... I've got a good one-way trip for 900cr per, and 150cr or so back... In the amount of time it takes to make the Slave run, I would probably make just as much with the shorter trip, but there's a lot of in-system travel on one end, and it eats up a good chunk of time....

I've also considered going Kursah's route. I've got an FSD interdictor, and I've chased some minor "wanted" bodies down. Never could find the big guy on the contract I took, so lost that. But I'm seriously considering swapping to gimballed pulse, sticking a torpedo and gatling on the bottom, and going whole-hog for some pirates. I pulled an Anaconda out Saturday night, and regretted that quickly heheh. Deciding that since I had JUST replaced my canopy an hour earlier, I wasn't playing that game again. After I lost my shields tout de suite, I ran for the border heheh.

I just wish it wasn't so hard to get multiple ships. I can't seem to find any way, vis-a-vis Eve or EvoMerc, to pull equip I've purchased off a ship for installing on a new one. I've got an Eagle sitting back at my starting planet, but there's no option for moving ships around that I know of.

Lots of things to do, but as I was lamenting early on, the only option for having two life-styles in the game, is to have two accounts. It's too easy to get pulled out far away from your "home" system, and any ships you have left there are just ballast.

For anyone trying to make some money bounty hunting here's my top tips:

  • Make sure you have the "report crimes against me" option turned off
  • To maximise profits I use only laser weapons - no ammo costs, but you need to max your reactor and power distributor to keep the guns firing (I also get gimballed weapons - less damage than fixed, but I'm lazy and appreciate the extra seconds of applying damage to a maneuverable enemy).
  • Get a kill warrant scanner - when you find a wanted ship scan it with the warrant scanner before attacking so you can earn bounties with multiple states
  • For hunting I find the best place is to head to a planet with rings and drop into a resource extraction point - you'll find miners, police and pirates - the pirates are on a constant respawn so there is usually one wanted ship within a short distance at all times. I mostly get sidewinders and vipers as targets which is 1,000cr-20,000cr each ship at a rate of 150,000-300,000 an hour at the moment.
  • I hear a lot of people complaining about police ships flying into the line of fire - this does happen, but I always tend to hear the ships before they fly across my firing arcs - make sure your volume isn't too low and you have set your audio up properly
  • If there's a wanted ship and there are police around always see if they are the same faction as the police - when you've scanned them (normal sensors - not kill warrant scanner) the left pane for "contacts" will list their faction if they have one. If they're the same faction as the controlling faction in the system then the police will attack you if you attack the wanted person. If that happens don't retaliate - FSD out and then back in to reset the police from killing you (this is a known bug).
  • Never fire on a ship without having scanned it and seeing "wanted" for it - if you do the police jump on you in a second - the same response as if you had opened fire on an innocent freighter.
  • If you get a fine set against you do not go to a station aligned with the faction that fined you - go to an independent station and you can pay the fine off from the contacts screen - if you turn up to a station with a small bounty on you they will not be merciful..
  • If you get a "kill x pirates in sectors a,b and c" mission then you can kill pirates in the sector you were given the mission in - where I hunt is pretty bad as the sectors they send me to are empty except for the star, so I hunt in the more populated sector I get my missions in (this isn't as lucrative as asteroid belt farming for wanted people, but it does help improve faction relations)
I am enjoying the game, especially with my Rift DK2 on, but there is a long way to go to develop it into something that will last - I'm already running out of upgrades to buy for my viper and am not sure if it is worth going for a better ship as I can take on anything with my ship now, so there's not much of a point upgrading as I'd lose maneuverability and lower running/insurance costs if I did.

ya I see the lack of an "endgame" being an issue.. making credits is fairly easy and im in a barely pimped out eagle.

Obtaining Elite Status is end game...

+1...that appears to be FD's idea of any sort of end-game. But really...it's up to you where it ends, whether it's that far or beyond.

Spent another night trading...then recieved a warning via chat to save and exit while the servers are under maintenance. I well admit...my trading from Cosi to Breksta has been pretty good imho...I went from averaging 15K/round trip to 28K+ round trip!!! I have 18 slots on my shielded and unarmed Hauler. Trading isn't my favorite thing to do..yet I can't seem to break way yet...I keep wanting to play one more run to see "if" I find that next hot commodity!!! Additctive.

So far it's been a super smooth experience and using Slopey's to assist in trades...to a point...because I don't want to wast time "maximising" runs when I can lose several K but get the run done a few minutes sooner. TIme is $$$....and really so far... Cosi <-> Breksta is the best 1-1 system run within a reasonable distance...figure I'll hop up my eagle soon..and might even venture to more new systems in search of epic trades before that happens...the bounty hunter and combat itch have been coming back in full force. :D

Name is under "Kursah" for anyone that wants to add me. See you out on the frontier commander. :toast:

Since the last update I'm having an issue while in any part of the "Services" menu, that my computer will hard crash.. sometimes. Only happens with ED. Sent in a ticket.

Oh, this is an awesome trade calculator/finder: http://www.elitetradingtool.co.uk/ I'm making around 175-200K in a round trip in my Type 6. Got bored with that for now, so I'm making long hauls with rare goods and doing exploration.

Just making money and saving up for an Imperial Clipper (currently Master in Empire):

already kinda bored, has turned into a login. Jump to a system, go to nav beacon, look for wanted ships for 15 minutes, log off

How good is the final game? Seem to find mixed reviews for it.

So I've been watching twitch streams. Seems pretty interesting. Anybody here using a stick and throttle controls?

lol, I haven't been able to play due to RL stuff, but one thing I'm glad I didn't do is pay more for earlier access.
I was actually left with a bitter taste. I have even thought I paid too much with the $56 I spent on it. :/

I'm going to give the game more chances(mostly because I paid more than $10 for it).
I will definitely be looking forward to Limit Theory coming out and of course SC.

Thrustmaster Warthog going on sale this afternoon at 4:00 EST on the 'Egg. Normal price on this jewel is around $415; according to the Camel, lowest price on Newegg was $398. Amazon's at about the same price, but had it down to $360 back in November (I remember that day... many kittens died from my despair that day.....). According to the blurb, this is a "replica set of the U.S. Air Force A-10C's joystick, dual throttle system and control panel". Definitely one of the top performers in the HOTAS arena, but if you're like me, way outta the sky range. Anyway, wanted to pass it along. Will post in the SC thread as well :)

Hi ^^

Do you have an idea if Elite Dangerous can be work correctly with my rig ? on 1920x1080 ? and on 5760x1080 ? ^^

( my rig = AMD FX-8350 / 16gb / Crossfire R9 280X Toxic )

It should work fine even with eyefinity and cf. Not sure about fps as I don't own the game though. :p

I would say you have no problems with it on 1920, but I'm not sure about the 5760. I ran on twin 6950s for a bit, and it ran ok. I would say XFire 280x should have no issues with the larger res, but let someone closer to your specs answer that for sure....

To bring it to the front, pricing now available on the Warthog.. At $349, it's the cheapest it's been seen, and definitely a bargain, if you've that much to toss around. Happy charging!!

I went with a CH Fighterstick + Keyboard for throttle and yaw. Works really well...too broke for a stick throttle atm.

I am constantly switching up what I'm doing...the boys and I were doing some bounty hunting in the hopped up Eagle (not maxed out tho...), then I switch to the cobra for trading, then I am going to buy an Adder for exploration and to just try it out. Been a blast! Though I don't get but a couple hours or so to play, i did have a good run this weekend finally! :D

How are
..... then I am going to buy an Adder for exploration and to just try it out.....:D
How are you going to deal with exploration and having to leave your other ships behind, or is there some mechanism for that which I've missed?

I got a X52 Pro today and tried it out with ED... I'm thinking I like using an Xbox controller better. Since they limit control of the ship, a Joystick doesn't seem to make anything "better". The throttle control is much nicer than the gamepad though. Not sure if I'm going to stick with the HOTAS or not. I do like it for Star Citizen so far. I'm thinking I'm going to need to hook up the Track IR.

Anyhoo, the only ship I currently have is a Type 6 and I'm grinding trading runs back and forth. Soon I will have an Asp! Can't wait.. It will be nice to have a more "Jack of all trades" ship.

I leave them at my home station, I was thinking of selling them all then I can rebuy them later on.

Also I read about this: Sell your parts before selling your ship or you'll lose thousands of credits. I did verify this. If you sell your parts, there's no loss on those and a minimal loss on the ship.

I am thinking we might head a few hundred LY in a random direction, so I might sell all my ships, get a fuel scoop and go. :D

Edit: Also with exploration, take one route out, and take a different one back. Profit. :toast:

If anyone is interested in helping the Empire expand (business is good!), come to the Cemiess system! It's close to Achenar. Seems to be a lot of action around there lately, lots of power struggles, civil wars, etc. :D

I got too bored with trading in my Type 6, so I'm in a Cobra just gaining rep and killing pirates.

A TPU rally? I'm there! :D

Well I've been in Federation space primarily since Gamma, mostly because that's near where I started and I've always come back to Cosi and ran the most missions for the Feds. I'm thinking I'll run a few more trades (have my Cobra kitted to run 60t, short trades only...haven't done the rare trades), I have a pretty decked out eagle...but I'm really liking the size, capability and speed of my slightly decked out Cobra. Thinking I'll sell my Eagle and parts, parts off of my Sidey and make a trip to your neck of the woods @erocker.

I plan on trying out mining again soon, as I often get bored with trading. I suck at finding good systems, but Thudd's and Slopey's help a little...but overall meh, maybe I just need more combat!

Getting back into Pirate hunting sounds like my next task! See ya there! :toast:

Update, I am heading your direction @erocker. But I am taking my time and doing some system scanning. With the fuel scoop and the 500k FSD, I'm doing pretty good thus far. Kinda broke now...upgraded the Cobra quite a bit after selling my other ships. But still have a ways to go before it's all kitted out. Regardless...I'm making my journey your way, but am enjoying blasting pirates and scanning systems at this point and ahve made it to the Decima system thus far...I think that's only 70-80Ly from your location.

Any other TPU'ers heading to the Cemiess system?
