Hi all. I've just downloaded an updated BIOS for my card, but it's come down (straight from Sapphire) as a file called "VP HD5770 VBIOS flash SOP.ppt" and it weighs 3.6MB!

I've looked through W1zzard's guide on flashing the 6950, and searched for flashing guides on TPU but come up nothing. Don't wanna sound like a tw@t but I don't trust any other sites.

I could have sworn there was a sticky on the subject??

I'm guessing the .ppt has the BIOS in there somewhere, but I don't know how to extract it (I'm generally not a n00b, so you can go in depth). Can anyone help me with this please?

I thought .PPT's were for PowerPoint?! :wtf:

Not only did I just click Program with the "gammy BIOS" still loaded into WinFlash (everything seized, I left it for a few minutes as I was scared of hitting reset and killing my GPU - I've reset and everything's fine), but also, on what you said, revisited the download page and my questions have been answered. I just tried to flash my graphics card BIOS with a PowerPoint Presentation file!!!!!

Did I say I wasn't a n00b a minute ago?

No offense ....

Excuse me while I

... If you need help with anything else just reply. ;)

thanks man, WinFlash just crashed again; is there anything really basic that I'm missing?
Is it important to close absolutely all open programs?
The file I'm trying to flash it with is called "132X1S6.S43" and the filename doesn't look right.
ATi WinFlash doesn't give any error messages, everything just stops responding.
Tbh, I think the biggest problem is that I haven't got PowerPoint to read the instructions!!

Before attempting to flash AT ALL try opening the file with RBE to verify it's integrity. Also, I recommend flashing in a pure DOS environment with ATIFlash.

I know that guide is a touch outdated but the procedure is the same.

EDIT:

Another question; What are you trying to accomplish that can't be done with software?

Aah, thanks I haven't heard about RBE for checking the integrity. I've downed RBE and it says the BIOS file is the same version as the one GPU-Z says I've already got.
A minute ago, I used ATi WinFlash to make another backup of the BIOS, and it wigged out something chronic. Went to black screen and took ages for the desktop to come back etc.

It's just an updated BIOS from Sapphire, I thought it would have been an update because the file names were different, but it seems that I've already got the latest one.

Thanks though, I'm glad I know the steps to go through from now on :)

You're welcome. Also, check into Quick Office(mobile office suite) / OpenOffice (Java based office suite) for a free alternative to MS PowerPoint.
