FPS game recommendations.

An excellent and FREE multiplayer FPS would be Combat Arms.

Best of all, since it is free, security on it sux, so hacking online is VERY EASY :toast:

Is that about bascially CHEATING?

:wtf:

So i would like a new FPS, a genre of game i don't really play that often.

Game must be LONG (nearing 10hours please)
game must have high replayable factor
not really fussed over the"era setting" although prefer modern.

NO MW2, NO BC2 AND NO CRYSIS.

ideas please!

I could wholeheartedly recommend FEAR (the original) and also Bioshock.

Borderlands = ZZZZzzzzZZZZZzzzz (trust me).

I'd have to agree with MatTheCat on Borderlands.. I really think it's truely boring.. Yes, I know I was one of the people recommending it (I think), but that was more due to the hype of the game. Almost everyone says it's excellent.

It's boring, eh? That's interesting. I have no idea, because I've not bought it... and at that price, I'm not going to take a chance on it when there's no demo available.

Good free MMOFPS with not lots of cheating involved, is Alliance Of Valiant Arms from IJJI.

i play it sometimes and its a very good game with amazing graphics for a free game.

if you cant run the above maybe try out Crossfire if your going for a free game.

No, its shit, especially if you have a G5, like myself.

As for recommendations, Id say Halo, Half-Life, Doom, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Red Faction, Deus Ex.

F.E.A.R. is always good to have Bioshock, farcry 2 is pretty fun to screw around in, half life games are old but still great story is really good, borderlands is good but i feel that the girl is too op so i stopped playing it wasnt fun, but worth a try, doom 3? also good, thats all i can think of

Yea FEAR, even the first game in the series still looks dam good.
All worth checking out IMO. Lots of good game recommendations in here.
I honestly haven't seen one game mentioned here, that I don't consider a must have.
Except farcry 2, that game kinda annoyed me, I uninstalled it like immediately.
Idk about valiant arms, combat arms and borderlands.

Fallout 3 is awesome. I have like 60 hours in that one and I haven't beat it yet.

RB6 Vegas and Vegas 2 as well. Far Cry 2 is fun.

ZZZzzZZZ'd ALERT!

Far Cry 2 is a mammoth bore of a game!

The graphics and physics effects are lovely, the game creates a great atmosphere, but the gameplay itself is utterly repetative, bland, and boring.

Sorry, but I feel the need to intervene as it seems to me that many people these days allow their opinions to form around media hype.

Totally agree. I never finished it, because it was the same thing over and over again...drive through a little checkpoint...kill everyone...turn around 3 minutes later and drive through the same checkpoint and have to kill them all again. LAME.

Who exactly would classify Just Cause 2 as a FPS? I saw someone say Dead Space as well…neither of these games are in the FPS genera.

Metro 2033. Good gfx, good story, nice gameplay, has some framerate issues with ati, but me and my gtx275 are fine :D i get avg of 36 fps all max AAA very playable. Seen 80+Fps and seen 14 fps for 3 seconds:p. Ambience is great. I finished it 2 times. Time for hardest settings... Not A bit easy at normal mode.

Borderlands, left 4 dead.

No one has mentioned Morrowind, Oblivion or Gothic 2 and 3. They all are first person Epic games well over 10 hours. They are non linear with huge open worlds you can explore. Sure they don't use guns, but swords and crossbows.. but if you can over look the weapon of choice not being a gun, they are fantastic and loads of fun. (for Gothic 2 and 3 all you do is scroll your mouse wheel to go into 1st person mode)

Two Worlds is a hybrid where you can explore in first person but you have to fight in the dreaded 3rd person. Also well over 10 hours.

Since First Person RPG's started coming out, they are now this old FPS gamers favorite game type to play.

Also Stalker 1 and 3 are epic and well over 10 hours.

I also agree about Half Life 2 with the source engine. There are as you may know 3 official episodes with well over 10 hours play.

There is even an awesome Half Life standalone version that let you play the first Half Life on the Half Life 2 engine..

(Not Black Mesa. This one is not a remake but the original half life files super enhanced with better textures and models and made to work on the Half Life 2 Source engine) Get it here, under 400 megabytes zipped up. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6ADX8DNY

Just downloaded and tried it out: some textures are much better, others don't appear to have been touched. I've started playing HL1 many times, but never managed to finish it. These enhanced graphics might just give me a reason to do so.

Also, it has the big benefit of not being tied to the Steam client and has no DRM on it whatsoever. :rockout:

Go for the Jedi Knight games. They're all very solid.

Other than that, I do not recommend any kind of first person RPG (made by Bethesda). None of them are good RPG's, even if they're not bad games as such.

Ooohh, another game is Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. I don't know how the full game is, but the demo was fun.

Bioshock 1 and 2 both great games and another vote for Painkiller an oldy but a goody.

Why has no one suggested Dead Space? It's a great shooter with scary frames. Metro 2033 is very similar.

If you want pure shooter your gonna have to go MW2 or BC2.

Dead Space is not a First Person Shooter.
Also, for PC the controls are crap. Avoid at all cost IMO.

i see guys here say Fallout3, for me i want to say STALKER all of them "shadow of Chernobi, clear sky, call of pripyat"

Well in all honesty I think Just Cause 2 sucks, big time. I don't get on with it all, just feels FAR too consoley. I mean all you have to do is to aim in the general direction and you hit them. £££ not well spent.

Might go on to Fallout 3, but I want more of a mission by mission game. I dunno if they still even make games like Hitman...?

WhiteLotus, I see you guys are talking about Just Cause 2 in this thread so I looked it up.. Sadly it's only 3rd person.. hehe.. I thought an FPS game had slipped by me.

You know, its funny.. I read a lot of threads from different places where someone asked wouldn't it be cool if this 3rd person game had a 1st person option. The question was asked at Gamespot about Sims 3 and everyone said No. It was asked on the Sims 3 forum and most people said Yes, an option would be nice but don't force 1st person only on me.

I have tried a lot of 3rd person games like Mass Effect. For me the game is unplayable because of the 3rd person. Red Faction 1 and 2 were awesome FPS games but then the first person was dropped in Red Faction Guerrilla. Causing the company to lose my money they would have other wise had.

Some games luckily have good first person Mods. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto 4 has a good working first person mods that lets me play these games finally. These games are epic and over 10 hours.

Every time I see that a 3rd person game is modifiable and has been out a while I always search the net for a first person mod.

Other games like The Witcher and Risen also have first person mods but they aren't implemented very well.

I think all game developers should get a clue and always make their 3d games with options for both a 1st person and a 3rd person. This should be the standard in Gaming. There are some (I cant for the life of me understand) who like to control disembodied characters and are happy to see all the eye candy around them (3rd person), then there are the realists like me who love to be in the action and truly be the guy dishing out the pain (1st person).

Game companies exclude tons of players by not offering both options and it hurts their bottom line because of all the money they missed. Offering both 1st and 3rd options is just a win win for everyone.

I whole heartedly agree with you. Especially when it does have the option of first person, but in that mode it's buggy and have to keep switching in and out of it to perform actions etc.
