hello,i recently overclocked graphics card it appears stable in games but since the overclock i can not boot games from disc- all other functions of the drive are normal.I can install software and such. The graphics card plays games normally off steam.I reduced settings of graphics card to factory but still i could not boot from disc,i then tried a full re install of windows 7 but with no successs,re installed driver 258.96,no success, tried latest beta driver 260,no success-itwould appear, correct me if i'm wrong ,that i have damaged my palit geforce gtx 460 1gb,no.......please any thoughts ,solutions are welcome

I doubt your card is damaged as its palying the steam games...sounds more like an issue with your CD/DVD rom player.

Exactly how does this involve giving games a boot up the backside? It'd be nice if your topic title actually said something about what you're posting. I clicked here expecting some kind of rant about games, not another problem topic about your overclocked video card + a random problem.

If you think it's your video card, test another video card.

sorry to dissappoint, the name was really just a device to get more people interested, could have been literal .as for the thoughts that it is my disc drive at fault ,well, who knows ,maybe but it does every other thing ,it installs software, plays cd's ,dvd's etc....could thios be software related,oh and i can not test another card as i do not have one

List your system specifications please. It's difficult to help when we don't know what hardware you are using. Go to your UserCP and fill it out. Be sure to tick the box to make it viewable to everyone.

sorry mate, done as best i can now

So if the video card isn't overclocked things boot up fine, but if it is overclocked games won't load?

no, either way games don't boot but only since the overclock.....ie ,this is what happened,i overclocked, then after games wont boot from disc,so i return to factory settings but games still wont boot up from disc...so then i do a fresh install of windows 7 and of the driver 258.96but games still don't boot from disc,so then i trythe latest geforce beta driver but again i have the same problem.......people, bear in mind though ,all of the other functions of the disc drive work, like every other function........sounds like i messed my graphics card up somehow?

It doesn't sound related to your video card at all really. Do you have your PCI-E overclocked (higher than 100) in your bios by chance?

mate ,i have no idea.....but i have not overclocked anything other than my graphics card

I think that can safely mean no then erock haha. But to clarify, the only overclocking you've done has been after windows loads correct?

side note: is there even an advantage to overclocking the pcie lane?

yes there is jasper but it seems to vary in general that said probably a bad DVD drive there cheap go buy one and install it there the same price as a cheap DVD hell your local town dump u can probably scavage a free working DVD drive to test with or find a relatives PC and borrow the DVD drive its a simple swap

yep,i have considered a new drive but i do not think this is a t fault since every other function of the drive works....but since theya re so cheap i would probably test this anyway

yes ,i have not overclocked anything in bios, the overclocking of my graphics card was done in windows

See if you can download some official drivers for your optical drive. See if that helps any.

(BTW, it is not usually recommended to overclock your PCIe bus).

at times they do release firmware for optical drives would be a good idea to check

This. My optical drive went all wonky on me in AHCI mode, but there was a firmware update for it which cured that issue right up. :toast:
