I've never heard of affinity. Where is that at in task manager? Any chance of you uploading a screenshot?

Just open Task manager, go to the Processes-tab, right-click any process and press on "set affinity...".

Is GTA IV compatible with Ageia Physx physics computing? Some Nvidia graphics cards have physx processing built-in. There is also a dedicated physics processing unit you can buy. See this link for details.

I would imagine a dedicated physics processor would take a hefty load off the processor and noticeably improve frame rates in some games.

nope cause its cpu physx not gpu thus it makes no difference it still will only use 1 core 2 at max with physx and a gpu from nvidia wont offload it for GTA IV this is why ppl call nvidias physx garbage most games that use it wont even see a benefit from it

the only game physx matters is cryostasis and that game STILL runs like ass with a gpu for physx so there ya go lol

after all xbox 360 and ps3 both use aegia physx and nvidias version now so yea physx is useless dont need a gpu to make it work just marketing and bs

This is off-topic, but when I bought my Gateway FX6710-01 gaming desktop computer, it came with Ageia Physx installed on it (apparently from the factory) I know that the Radeon HD 4850 does not support Physx processing. Could this have been a software version of Ageia Physx?

My computer was pre-owned for Three months, I got a 5% discount because it was used. Then I would imagine it was formatted, and had a fresh OS install. Where did that Physx come from?

um if it was formated with a disc from gateway then it may have been installed that way oem versions are sometimes streamlined to install certain drivers into a machine via unattended installs or etc or they may have installed it i dont know but pre owned tells me something was done somewhere

It said on the papers it came with that the computer was restored to factory it's settings.

well as i said slip streaming drivers is easily done and for an oem with a disc included no issue my old dell xps was that way (first pc ever) came with a single restore disc that had all the default drivers for the gpu etc

I think it should, i'm pretty sure I read it would in one of the various interview about the cryengine 3 floating about the internet. They have procedural destruction physics implemented in the cryengine 3 which should make good use of the extra processing powah! Will be awsome to blow up whole buildings! It's quite good in red faction guerilla but in crysis it will be amazing.

not really depends on the game most of the time it tends to be cpu oriented unless specified by drivers if i recall correctly

That is the reason i went for an dual core...

Most of the time a dual core will do better in games then a quadcore (quadcore stock)

Maybe in 2 years it will be worth having a quadcore for gaming but for now a fast dual core is better for gaming...

I don't think its actually physx when its on a cpu.

its just a CPU running physics simulations.

well games like sacred 2 there physics are run with the physx bs from nvidia its just run on the cpu but the game will let you run it on the gpu for more leaves and swirling leaves as you explore

they seem to be using the first level in crysis a lot in their cryengine 3 tech demos. Maybe they'll port crysis to the cryengine 3 to stop people whining about preformance

Any recent FPS game will show increases with a quad. I saw 60-70% use on my old E6420 at 3.2Ghz playing COD MW online with everything maxed out. The more players that got on the server, the more frame rate would sag. Moved over to a Q9400, problems went away and frame rate greatly stabilized.

This is only one example.

Which i noticed to with GTA 4 from changing from E8400 to a Q9550 although GTA 4 played fine on the 8400 @ 3.7Ghz the Q9550 @3.58 made it smoother and more stable frame rates. GTA 4 uses 75% of each core.

And i thought i'd give this thread a bump .
