Gtx 275 Physx, need tips on poor physx performance

i only have 1 monitor connected right now, the 1080p and my nv physx properties list as enabled..

3d settings in control panel are all set to default

tiles in this game and bricks in the ut3 physx map are the only things i cannot process.. even on those maps, like shown in my pics on page 2, I get undr 20 fps

Hmm...well I tried a side angle of attack on zaz to get a better shot of the tile destruction, I did drop below 40FPS on my last run:

But that's about as bad as it's gotten yet. I dunno man...there's a number of things that could be causing issues I suppose. What if you turn all the graphics down and leave the physx hi does it still go awry and drop performance?

I would say that it might not hurt to maybe manually install the latest physx drivers and get a little more oomph out of your chipset/cpu. If you can get 3.2ghz it might help...hard saying, 3.0 should be enough imo.

I don't have ut3, almost got it but decided against it at this point in time. I would guess it's gotta be a bug or glitch or missing part of the library w/o errors being reported...definately odd that I can go through it with a lesser card in a situation where yours has the horsepower to get thru it and the biggest difference is your slower dual/fsb and os beyond the card.

Can you go into c:/programfiles/eidos/bmaa/engine/config/bmengine and tell me if your physxlevel=0

My PhysX_level=2 in bmengine. Hopefully we can get ya up to par man! We'll find out wth is going on!

Cool, keep me posted. That'd be sweet if that was the fix! I'll keep my fingers crossed. :toast:

I'd say rename it or change the extension long enough to change the value (w/o the game running of course), then change it back. Well and the bmengine I found was in:

C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Eidos\BMAA\engine\config\bmengine

Steam is where I downloaded it from. I tend to prefer to get them from steam anymore, peak out my d/l's and I've yet to have issues, and a cake uninstall if it sucks! :D

And remember those config files in your User account under documents will be the ones that control modified/changed settings of the game, so that's where I'd start.

im gonna uninstall and try the steam version... might be a waste but i wont sleep tonight unless i try it now lol

Well let me know how that goes for ya man! Maybe there's something different..I doubt it but at this point in time, it's worth a shot. I'll check back later and hope for some good news!

:toast:

Here are my tests with my quad-core locked to dual-core and set back to stock 3.0GHz:

It never dropped below 40FPS during the kick, I took the screen right after the kick when the tiles were breaking.

The last picture is me just breaking tiles, that was as low as I could get the framerate, not matter how many more tiles I broke it seemed to stay around ~23FPS.

bah!!! WTF is going on??

I just reinstalled ut3 ageia pack and did clean install of the latest stand alone physx drivers and i did not a difference in the 1st 30 seconds of lighthouse.. after i started breaking walls it started to choke me out again...

I'm thinking something is up with my cpu.

It's a good chip man, I'd be pushing 3.2ghz if I were you though. Go for a good even FSB, it might not help, but it'd help open things up for that card a tad more. I don't think it'll solve your issues at all or entirely.

Definately interesting you're having such issues though, I vote fresh vista x64 install, fresh driver installs, and 3.2ghz/400fsb! :rockout:

That or disable physx and enjoy the games until you can find out more answers to your questions...you don't NEED it to play, and maybe you should just take a break from fighting it atm and go enjoy the games/demos you have. I'm out of ideas beyond what I just suggested, and whether or not that'll fix it I don't know tbh. Maybe check GPU-z and make sure your PCI-e lanes are fully opened on the card and not at like 4X or 8X? I think that was more of an Intel chipset issue and not so much NV...tbh I've never really had a serious issue with PhysX in the limited number of titles that have used it, I've only tried very vew.

while it was downloading on the duron i was getting 400x8 worked out on here... dont know how stable it is but for the sake of a test run, what could it hurt...

running bat:aa now

fresh install physx drivers. fresh install bm:aa
overclocked to 3.2ghz 8x400
190.62 drivers

NO AA!

bah im forced to stay with 185.85 because nothing else downclocks after exiting a game...

I'm using 186.18 WHQL. These things have served me well. Haven't upgraded to newer ones, because they don't work with Fallout 3 that I'm currently playing.

Seems this thread got interesting while I was sleeping :) I see you already tried without AA. 8x is quite a lot for that resolution, I'd use 4x max.

Anyhow mine was without AA, but GPU also on stock and that's 1296MHz shaders. Higher the shaders, better the PhysX performance.

Have to try today with GTX 275 clocks and with AA. 190.xx might indeed offer some performance boost to the game like they say, but your shot doesn't seem to relate that.

Oh and my demo is BatmanMDemo_v12.exe, took it from gamershell. Batman: Arkham Asylum Demo Size: 2.03GB Hosted since: August 7, 2009, 11:05 am.

Well I played it through now and tried to the tiles part a few times vsync on/off&some lighting settings. Maxed with 2xAA this time still with 186.18. With GTX 275 clocks it was nice and smooth. Lowest I got was 20fps and generally low twenties in the tile area. You don't even need to break the tiles, it's just such a hard spot with all the lights, reflections and many characters.

Depends on what side you are in to what framerate you get. Near the back "net"wall looking to the ramp you came up drops the frames. Only other area I dropped under 40fps was here:

Oh and the physics setting does (almost) nothing, Normal and high are the same thing in demo, didn't alter anything visually (that I could see) and didn't affect fps.

Maybe it runs better on x64, only thing left that I can think of, as we can't get under 10fps. newtekie1 has NVIDIA motherboard and Kursah 65nm CPU without SSE4, so can't be those either.

I do like the graphics in this, might even prefer them over Crysis. Love the window effects and the PhysX stuff really help on the ambient feel, like the smoke here coming down the stairs.

I think it's my cpu, its gotta be!

I did notice that when I updated the physx drivers I was able to break the corners of walls with anything (punch or batarang)

When before, I would have to hit the wall over and over.

I'm 10 minutes away from installing Vista x64

Going to fresh install and try it out, and do the 190.62's and see what happens

I didn't install chipsset drivers on this vista 32 install.. don't know if that has anything to do with it.
