Okay, thank you. I have pretty much only used Furmark for GPU stress testing so far.

There is a way, just use another program, like MSI Kombustor or OCCT if you want to stress test ;)

Kombustor is furmark iirc

also i have a Zotac 770 AMP! i tried Zotac Firestorm and went quickly back to Afterburner...

Why do you want to remove the power limit? the card was nearly killed by that shitty Zotac software and you want to stress it more

Wow that Zotac software is a card killer.

First thing I noticed on his GPU-Z SS was the amps and voltage, I would send a link to this thread over to them to find out WTF is going on with that software, could well have killed the card :shadedshu

You can just imagine dodgy software like that stopping the fan at the same and finishing the job of sabotaging the card. :shadedshu

My intention was to start Furmark to see if the card would behave normally again. It wouldn't have been unattended and I would have exited Furmark if I had seen any abnormal behaviour.

Furmark will max out a 580 pretty quickly and quite possibly damage it, so I don't recommend disabling the safeties when running it, no matter how much you want to see what it can do.

If I remember correctly, it's not just the heat that's too much, but the current too, burning out the power circuitry.

From seeing just how hot my reference 580 gets and the amount of current it pulls, I don't want even want to overclock it, let alone disable the safety circuit.

well Kombustor make all my card (480/580 didnt test the 770) throttle like Furmark does and it use the same mechanism as furmark

This is standalone benchmark/stability test tool based on FurMark.
For the MSI AfterBurner we are creating a new function, a stress test which will be called Kombustor. This is standalone benchmark/stability test tool based on FurMark, but now with big and furry MSI logo. You can either run in separately, or link with Afterburner to read more detailed information during stress test.

After installing Kombustor, you can simply press the "K" button on Afterburner 1.5.0 and instantly launch 3D stability test. Just that simple! You can also click the Kombustor icon on the desktop to launch GUI to customize your testing preference.

This is first public beta, please try it and feedback to us.

Features of MSI Kombustor

Based on FurMark technology
Latest OpenGL 3.2 rendering path
Benchmark and stability test mode
Link with Afterburner 1.5.0+
GPU temperature monitoring
Fullscreen or windowed for each type of run mode
Window size selection (standard or custom)
MSAA samples selection
Benchmarking parameters: time based or frames based
Xtreme Burning Mode for Xtreme tester

unless it has changed since beta

The basic stress test is exactly the same.

it doesn´t change the fact that Kombustor is based on Furmark xD it be on bench or stress test it use the same scheme. ofc the bench use some extras but no matter what it make the card i mentioned above throttle (from 6mhz to nearly half the max frequencie set sometime.)
