Guide to Radeon X800/X850 bios modding

His X800 Gto

Hello I've a HIS X800 GTO and I want to unlock all of the 16 pipelines!
My data:

CONFIG_DIE_FUSES 0xFFFF7FFF
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES 0xFFFFFF9E
CONFIG_ROM_FUSES 0x261
GB_PIPE_SELECT 0x227A4

I hope you can help me! Thanks Stephan:nutkick:

Sorry, doesn't look good.

this is an r481 GPU, i know these have 16 pipes, if i have to mod it at the hardware level, im game. im not worried about my warranty, so is there anything i can do at all?

is there anyone here who has experience a reduction in the overclock capability of there videocard after bios modding it to 16pipelines? i notice that my videocard's oc ability is reduced after i modded it to an xt pe. when i flash the original bios, it still has a reduced overclock ability.

i have a gecube x800pro vivo agp version.

It is normal to have lower overclock after modding to 16 pipes (from 12) because the core generates app. 25% more heat (25% higher current draw) and additionally the locked quad could have some limitation over the complete ovecloking potential of the core. Nothing strange here but the gain in performance should be enough to reconcile that little loss of oveclockability ;) .

but it seems that the memory clocks were most affected by the bios mod... i use to get a max mem of over 530, but after the mod... i can only get as high as 475. the core clock, seems fine... i can go over 540 without artifacts. i have a gecube x800pro vivo agp version.

All the above was for the core overclocking. When you flash XT BIOS for instance it can have different memory timings (usually more aggressive) and it is normal to have better performance but poor overclock.

OK i have the moded x850 pro agp /w 16pp so what your saying is if i flash the bios to xt pe i might be able to not have artifacts at xt pe speeds because it changes the timmings for the memory i can run my pro up to 540/585 before i start getting artifacts.

Talking about X850 (PRO; XT) I think that they have equal memory timings but you can check them (or part of them) with RaBit. If you can reach XT speeds + with your PRO BIOS flash it and try again.

hey here is my data of the x850 pro i have from ati tool and i was wondering if i could unlock the last quad of pipelines based on this:

AGP Device 0x4B4B Bus:1 Dev:0

Device ID: 4B4B
Chip Type: R481
CONFIG_DIE_FUSES 0xFFFFFFFF
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES 0xFFFFFF9F
CONFIG_ROM_FUSES 0x861
GB_PIPE_SELECT 0x2724

those are the fuses i got for my saphire x800 GTO2, and ive edited my bios using rabit and flashed successfully
at the moment its runing:
modelname:X850XT PE
core: R480
pipes: 16
doing (560\560) stable with minimal cooling.

so if youre 850 pro has 12 pipes, the answer is yes, you can unlock it, edit a dump of your bios compare the 3 fields you get in rabit to the installation INF file, pick the best suitable unlocked card and replace the current values with the new values, save, flash, and enjoy.

*always remember to keep a coy of the old bios at bay on a cdrom, just incase.

I have a PCI-E X800 GT, how would i go about changing the pipelines on that?

tried the way on the first page but i get confused

Rabit allows you to "save" you current bios, so thats how you get a bios dump, its the button bottom-right

as to the R423 core, check your bios with rabit too, bios might have some incriminating detials, you can try and see your max MHZ using ATItool, that also gives an idea of which core your really runing, each core has a max mhz it can OC to, so check yours do some testing.

yes but how do i get to use the total of 16 pipelines?

you should refer to the first page of this thread, as it has a comprehensive howto for unlocking those pipelines, get a good hex editor, edit your bios accordingly, flash, check to see if 16 pipes enabled, then reflash to a better BIOS

i did but i dont understand, what type am i searching for? hex vaule, text string? im a noob at overclocking and just looking for a easy explainable way for me understand, if you would please contact me at Shadyltd240 on aim i would be grateful

so tell me pls, i have x800xt, can i flash it to x850xt pe? and it will work and will improve my x800xt?

i can see this can be confusing, so imoffering my personal assistance, i too am learning about these things, it would be easier for me to find out data and for you to mod easier if we co-operate.

flashing the bios of the x800xt to the x850xt doesn't usually work since they use different cores, although sometimes there are limited edition x800xt's that use a compatible core, so if we can find out which one your card uses, we can say if it will/won't work in your card.

If you want to try it anyway, make sure you familiarise yourself with the commandline that you will need to blind flash the original bios back in the case taht the new bios doesn't work.

In most cases, the x850 bios uses different memroy timings that are more aggressive, so you will most likely gain performance, but reduce the maximum overclock of your memory, in the case that the bios flash goes to plan.

For X800 series cards, some X800 GT/GTO cards (but not all) are the only ones that can be flashed to an X850 series bios or work with having their ID changed in the bios to that of an X850 series card. This is because some of them have the same gpu as the X850 series cards (R480). For any other non-X850 card, it is guaranteed not to have the type of gpu that the X850 series has and will not work being setup as an X850 series card.

i have the r423 core, that help any?

Ah, it might actually work then.

The X800GTO comes with either R423 or R480 cores, but both use the same bios; and the X850XT uses the R480 on the PCIe cards. Therefore i see no reason why you would have a compatability problem.

What is the ram on the card? 1.6ns or 2.0ns? You can tell by looking at the last part of the serial number on the ram chips. You will see GC16 or GC20 at the end of the second line.

I'd say go for it and see what happens. If it doesn't work, you can always flash back the original bios.

i got 1.6 samsung...if that what you means.
tnx for help anyway! :D
