Has an incorrect Crossfire setup fried my card?

you only need one bridge. i'm running one bridge. Two bridges is there to run more than 2 GPU's.

When running multiple monitor and crossfire, both monitors must be on the primary (topmost) card - you cant do one on each card

so yeah, I win :p

Not if I'm right. I won't budge. :p

you want me to take a pic of mine working with 1 bridge? :P

i even tested in a 16x/4x config, and there was zero performance difference between one and two bridges.

I think its pretty poor that we are reduced to arguing over one letter in one FAQ in order to decipher the correct setup. I'm a fan of AMD/ATI but really, why can't they make a clear statement?

PS. My two 4870's have only one bridge and they appear to work fine too, but theres always this niggling doubt in the back of my mind....and this thread has done nothing to allieviate it, LOL

I can take a pic of mine working with two!

:D

one works, two works - you just get no benefits to using two.

use more than zero, for crossfire to work :)

so why should the user have to buy an extra one

and I win regardless :p

If CrossFire doesn't work well with just one.

I'm using two FOREVER!!! If my cards start on fire due to the extra bridge, I owe you a Coke!

If CrossFire doesn't work well with just one.

should that situation ever occur, lemme know - its not relevant to the 4 series cards, but it may change with the 5 series.

PVK II didn't like my two 3870's running just one bridge.

even my 5870s only need one

At least I was right about the dual display working with crossfire :p I recall playing crysis in windowed mode stretched over 2 22" screens driven by 2 4850's.

crossfire is disabled in windowed mode

crossfire is disabled in windowed mode

It's not disabled, It's just not accelerating the game.
Don't forget To Disable crossfire you must go int CCC and Disable.
;)

oh and you only need one bridge for 2 gpus

:p

Using two bridges looks better

I figured one came with each card and there are two connections so why not use both. I have never had any issues with that or running dual displays with crossfire enabled.

I'm going to try to settle this once and for all. I sent a couple emails to AMD, hopefully I'll get a response. Either way you cannot argue with Wilhelms logic. :toast:

I still can't get the second DVI-D connection to take any input from the monitor, though. Any suggestions on what I should ask my installer?

for your money back?

Well just to throw in my 2 cents, I have had a 4870 Crossfire setup previousley and encountered problems with only running one connector, bottom line is, if you have 2 run 2 it wont do any harm and in some cases does help.

Oh and my 3870's have both bridges, like I said it doesnt have any ill effect and in some cases does help so theres no need not to run with both.

unless you only have one..

@ IntelInside ,Can you elaborate on the issues you had?
