Hi all

I have a really weird and annoying problem with my Diamond HD 6970. Here's the deal: it always shows millions of little gray dots on my screen depending on what I'm doing EXCEPT when I play a video on YouTube/Facebook/Daily motion etc and when i play games. I updated the drivers a couple of times, tried the older ones but no luck. My screen is in good condition. I also did not overclock my card.

Thanks in advance

System specs:

- Coolermaster Storm enforcer
- i7 2600k @3.4GHz
- Gigabyte Z68X-UD4-B3H
- G. Skill Ripjaws X 8GB 1600MHz
- WD Caviar Black 500GB 7200rpm
- Corsair TX750

How long have u had the card 4? It could b heat related. Try and cool it down a bit and see what happens.

Have u taken the video card out and put it back in? It might need reseating. Also check that your power cables r in properly. It could also be your heatsink is not properly on, tighten all screws.

are you using HDMI cable - if so try changing it. If it isn't a cable I would say that this can be due to: 1. bad memory, 2. bad power module on the card (weak capacitors) 3. failing gpu. Did you ever overcock this card? What are your temps. Due to fact that video plays ok I would tend to think that it is either 2 or 3 (as bad memory modules would affect video play too, while gpu is hardly used durring video playback)

Outback Bronze i tried to take it out and put it back in but no luck. I also checked the heatsink and cables and they are fine.

ExodusMaximus i'm using DVI cables, i didn't overclock the card and it's running around 40-45 degrees Idle.

Return the card. Most likely power module is hosed or even gpu (what explains why you only seeing the problem when the card does 3 d operations (rmdac works fine)

That's what I'm trying to do, i emailed Diamond about the problem and they don't respond...

And one more question, is there a preference with the CPU - GPU combo? Like an nvidia card fits better than an amd card with an intel CPU?

Thanks anyways guys

1st did you register the card with Diamond? Also forget about e-mailing them, try calling them directly. Anyhow, this is why I always buy Sapphire, ASUS, OCZ and Corsair, never had a tech support problem at all, they respond in a matter of hours...

wait the minute - Did you say that it is all ok when you play games? - so the only problem you are having is with the desktop display and 2d apps? - if thats so then make sure you clean uninstall drivers (use nuke or something) and reinstall 11.8 works good for me) - also make sure that your refresh rate for your monitor is set correctly) - if you had bad gpu or even mem you would crash them most during game play - sorry for confsion - did not readt that part of the post - your gpu is prolly fine - do you have some other system to test it on?

also - this just hit me. I did hear of some people having issues at the low gpu clock settings - aka, window operations (your 250-350Mhz clocks - video usually runs at about 500-700 and all games will get max clocks) - the issues with low clocks were connected to a low voltage on low gpu clocks - try updating voltage (in bios or in AB) to a constant value for all frequencies - I did hear that this corrected the issue - try this before you uninstall drivers (which honestly are prolly good since you are running video and 3d good) - so, try to set 1.175v to all timings.
