HELP!!! 4890 system hangs!!!!

edit: using latest catalyst drivers, just played some garry's mod and everything worked flawlessly,, then I swithced to a shotgun and my whole system starting hanging with a constant sound loop...

Your display driver is crashing for some reason, that sound looping is common to the source engine in my experience. Using Catalyst 9.4? Overclocked? What are temps of system including GPU under load?

Huh. Did you do any overclocking? I had a similar Issue with Episode One with unstable clocks.

And I have to ask that: You did download the right Catalyst drivers, right?

are you sure the crash is even video card related? it could actually be an audio bug.

If you are using VSync, turn it off. I had the same problem with both ATi and Nvidia cards.

im almost positive vsync isnt on, i am getting over 200 fps so theres no way.. i turned off vsync completely in CCC and fresh format and still whenever i pull out the shotgun in half life 2 my whole game freezes... something is very fishy...

downloading fresh audio drivers now..

EDIT: I was looking in my device manager and found two Unknown PCI Devices in yellow... i am very confused. i have downloaded my chipset drivers,, CCC and the newest ati drivers.. help?

EDIT: downloaded all my sound drivers and the UNKNOWN PCI DEVICES are gone.. but still only in HL2 engines I randomly system hang... it is ridiculous.. ive tried low resolution, high res,, no result.. im scared of switching to my shotgun because it always makes me crash

you mentioned using sound drivers from a CD. thats always a bad idea - grab the latest drivers for EVERYTHING, online.

probably not.

if you're under vista with a HD codec you can use the generic microsoft driver, otherwise try something else you have around, like a USB headset.

I just tried going onto warhammer online... I get stuck at my character screen with constant flickering and system hang,, the background music is playing perfectly but my monitor keeps blacking out then reverting back to normal.. its very odd.. what is wrong!?!?!

thats your GPU driver recovering from an error.

I beleive its already been said in thsi thread, not sure - GPU errors are caused by overheating, lack of power, or a bad card.

is there a difference in that i just put in two 6+2 power pins as opposed to two 6 pins? obviously the other 2 are not plugged in but i wanted to give it a try..... no difference,, when i put my ear to the case the card gives off a slight little hissing constantly before the system hang.... someone help


EDIT: I can run 3Dmark06 and get a score around 17500
