Computer is running very slow all of a sudden. Takes 10+ minutes to get pass the Starting Windows bootup screen.

When it does finally logs onto windows. Everything is SLOW. I mean, when clicking on Firefox it takes 5+ minutes to load. When cicking on any program for that matter. (defrag, C drive etc etc).

WTH is wrong? Hard Drive going bad? I don't hear any clicking.

When I restart, I get a message, (Log onto windows7 "recovered").

When I try to repair the computer, it takes forever to get to that screen.

It also takes forever to shutdown.

That is some tremendous slowness you have going on there. To me it sounds like either a nasty virus/spyware infection or hard drive going bad but before we start poking fingers I'd recommend you go and grab UBCD iso, burn to CD, and boot from it. Try to run the manufacturers Hard drive test to make certain. I'd also recommend testing your ram.

Also have you tried the system in safe mode to see if the slowness continues there? If it doesn't then go back to Safe Mode with networking and go to safety.live.com to run a virus/spyware scan if your able to browse.

When my HDD died, behaviour was similar, but there was a lot of HDD clicking. maybe look in event viewer, there can be something useful.

Check for virus, then harddisk. Sometimes, if you fill your harddisk too full, it slows down dramatically. I would personally, do a reformat then a fresh reinstall, but if that is not an option you will have to hunt down the culprit slowly. Have you tried system restore?

no clicking he stated :rockout:

Even logging into SafeMode is HELLA slow. 10+ minutes. wth Pressing f8 and waiting for safemode to pop up. Not even logged onto windows yet. Just a black screen right after I entered "safe mode with command prompt.

my moneys on the hd kickin the bucket.. either that or u suddenly have every virus and malware known to man.

Do the simple, Ctrl+alt+delete and look in processes and see whats eatting ur memory.. if nothing then its the hd

It might be my mobo, cpu or rams because I put in a different hard drive and tired to install windows and it's taking FOREVER.

It's gong to suck to see what the problem is.

Memtest the ram homey. I had slowdowns and BSOD's just this last week and memtested each of my ram, found a bad stick. Errored out 75+ errors in like 4 mintues.

Highly doubtful your cpu is bad, if it kicked the bucket it wouldn't boot.

Usually motherboard problems are popped caps. Check the board around the cpu socket to see if anything is discolored or ovbiously missing.

I would hazard another guess thinking that the bios might be corrupted.

Try this:
http://www.hdsentinel.com/hard_disk_sentinel_trial.php

Hdsentinel is an amazing Utility, this link leads you to their trial version...It will (together with other useful information) show you very accurately how much time your particular HDD drive got left before it dies.also shows the drives total uptime.

Have you made any recent changes to the system (hardware or software)?

Reset your BIOS, disconnect all non-essential hardware/peripherals, boot into safe-mode.

It's practically impossible to run any programs on the desktop. It's lagging big time.

I highlighted a few desktop icons.. And it just frozen. LOL I can't do anything until windows decides to finished highlighting the icons.

I am typing this on my laptop... My desktop is the one laggin.

try to boot in safemode and install Hdsentinel..even if it will still take hell of a long time to load everything,at least the utility will maybe show you som essential information..for example that your HDD is really close to its end..

EDIT:Oh just to ask,how is your security on your PC?this could be a spyware, virus or other malicious aplication...

The last thing I remembered doing before shutting down my desktop last night was running CCleaner reg cleanup.

And this morning, I discovered this.

Running safemode now.

Maybe CPU overheating? Then it might make your PC very slow because of thermal throttling.

You may just have a virus . do you have Any virus software installed ? If not then install some thing even Microsoft security essentials and also run a reg cleaner as well .

Maybe you accidentally fubared the registry?

Ok, running safe mode and its quicker than before. Problem is I have eset virus scanner and you can't run it in safe mode. WTF is thls shit.

It's running a "dos" prompt scan. Does that clean the viruses if I have any?

I get "incorrect CRC checksum, the file may be damaged.

If you have windows 7 64 bit you should be running MSE This would find and fix your problem fast .

usually its coz virus or worm or whatever that run on the background and it eats much resources so it slows down your rig
2nd if its from hdd, its usually started by strange sound from hdd and sometimes followed by bsod
3rd what about temp file and folder have you cleaned it?
4th registry could be especially when you like install and uninstall apps
i hope it helps

You might just have to format and reinstall the OS make sure it is gone that way .
