16GB because modern games can use more then 8GB of RAM.

32gb video editing, transcoding, gaming Your poll doesn't really make sense. And I can't think of one "professional" that games on there work PC.

Oops...

16 GB for gaming and general home use, surfing web, streaming media, etc.

I have 8 GB on my current laptop, had 12 and 16 on previous laptops though. 8 GB is still plenty for 1080P gaming, but there is benefit from 16. 32 GB and beyond though is mostly just people flexing.

For me, I use 16GB. Productivity and gaming. Whenever I do my research for journals, I use about 7GB of ram, opening probably 100 Chrome tabs along with several word files, pdfs, excels, images, and photoshop.

While gaming, I use about 12-14GB of RAM. Since I use two monitors and already accustomed using both for daily activities, I play games while watching youtube/streaming platform.

8GB, 2 slots still free.
Gaming, some light video and audio conversion/editing, running antivirus for other, less fortunate hard drives.
The only thing that maxes is out are emulators, both VM and console ones.

16GB for web browsing and don't have to close it and other programs when I start a RAM heavy program

64GB - 95% Web Development / Graphics Design along with HEAVY multitasking + VMs.
I rarely hit over 30-32GB usage but but went with a 64GB Quad Kit to avoid issues in the future.

there are some games like deus ex mankind dividied that can use 12-13gb of ram, and if your system/chrome is taking up 4gb you can run into hitching in that game... its pretty annoying, but I am not buying 32gb of ram just for one game... so screw that

Hopefully, the price will keep dropping, might be viable then.

Currently 16GB, mostly used for chrome tabs gaming, none of the work I do really uses that much. Will be looking for a 32GB kit in the coming months.

8GB DDR3 1600 CL7

Wanting to upgrade to at least 16GB due to new 8GB RX580 video card...

6GB on my work PC, 8GB on my laptop and 16GB on my gaming PC.

Also if I have 8GB do I mark 4-8 or 8-16? Same with 16gb?

32GB in my main computer used for Gaming, Video Editing and Encoding, and Virtual Machines. Though, I don't think I've ever actually seen over 16GB of RAM in use...

My home server has 16GB of RAM. My HTPCs have 8GB of RAM.

You can't benchmark RAM usage because it depends too much on how you use your computer...

As someone who basically always has 20+ chrome tabs open I value the extra RAM a lot. I also play quite a few games that will readily take upwards of 6GB of RAM so I definitely noticed the upgrade from when I had 8GB and definitely get use of the 16GB I have now.

16 GB on my gaming desktop and 8 GB on my laptop.

32Gb, gaming (Skyrim with TONS of mods originally) and a good bit of photo editing in Raw.

32 GB. Database and Hadoop VMs. Barely cutting it.....Need for memory

32gb on my new machine, 32gb opn my laptop and 16gb on my daughters machine
Gaming and internet. Why? Because I can.

12 GB for gaming and every use.

32gb going to 64gb cause getting too tight for multiple users.

Run everything in VMs. My 1 PC basically handles everything through multiple VMs. My 2700x runs like a champ, but really starting to feel the need for a big boy Threadripper server!
