Active Power Factor.. or something like that. Anyways it makes the PSU more efficient and makes it so you don't have to switch between US and Europe power standards. I think it does a whole bunch of other useful stuff as well. I know I will never buy another PSU with out it tho.

it seems it helps maximise the way power is used and more efficiently. this even recommends against non PFC PSU's, but idk never heard of it myself haha, we're both learning

Concerning whether or not the 8800GTX can run on the OP's first choice, there is about 94% chance it can.

last time i checked the Antec that i recommended is the best bang for the buck. you got to consider quality. The Antec's quality is better then HECs. but fuck it i am tired of everyone disagreeing with me. Do what you want and take advice from everyone else but me it seems that i am never right on anything :banghead:

no one is ignoring you infact i agreed with you, we're here to help the op and he should have the idea by now that the antec you suggested would be a good choice either way any of the last 3 PSU's suggested will run fine though antec does have the best rep for PSU's out of hte other PSU's suggested.

Dude the HEC is like 20 bucks cheaper and has GREAT reviews. There is no reason to NOT get it. I have never heard of an HEC PSU ever blow out a component. The HEC has a BETTER review than the Antec you reccomended.

My friend is a happy owner of a 750w HEC PSU and it powers his two 8800 GT's very nicely.

If the dude knows how to spend his money, he will get the HEC. Antecs are good PSU's but why would you spend more for less.

Since it's (card) is using two PCIe adapters, does it mean that the card is using both rails?

An 8800GTX would hit about 75% of 18A. Isn't that quite a strain on the PSU?

Well i warned him his PSU would'nt handle that card, well what ya know He has to replace the PSU because it blew just because of the 9800 GT, he hasnt been online lately because his system is dead until he can get a new PSU, i hope the old PSU didnt take his entire system with it.

I had a xclio Good power It ran my 7900GS@700/1000 just fine. I put in my 8800GT and it ran fine for less then a month... Replaced it with a Hiper(it was loaned by a friend) just for a temp then i got the Silverstone Zeus..I thought that the Xclio took out my mobo and CPU because they both wouldn't work but come to find out they both are living. with all of the other PSUs out there around the same price as a Xclio i recommend getting one of them

7A for the CPU load ( at 2.5ghz) and 11A for the 8800GTX at load (non overclocked). Around 1A for each peripheral, I'm guessing.

About 22A, 2A over to be safe.

should be fine. but keep in mind you always want more then your going to need. if you overclock the 8800GTX that also is going to pull some more power. I would recommend something closer to 25A-30A just to have some head room.

EDIT: as much as i hate to admit it the Silverstone that you asked about seems to fit the bill just fine

They keep extending the 20% off deal on that antec. It has been extended to thursday, although my money goes in on friday... I'm hoping they'll extend it again. If not, I'm getting a silverstone.
